Kiryat Gat inventor reinvents internal combustion engine
The Jerusalem Post ^ | 7/6/2009 | Ron Friedman

The world frets about the rise in fuel prices and the environmental damage caused by motor pollution. An inventor in Kiryat Gat says he has the solution.

Hugo Tour, a retired Israel Air Force officer, claims the engine he's been working on for three years is the biggest breakthrough in motor technology since the invention of the internal combustion engine by Nikolaus Otto in 1876.

At his home laboratory in Kiryat Gat, Tour has built a working bench-prototype of a split cycle engine, which he predicts will improve engine efficiency by up to 100 percent and reduce carbon emissions by 50% and nitrogen oxide emissions by 80%. He also says his engine will work with any type of fuel and can be easily produced with slight modification of existing engines.

I have to admit, it makes sense that it would be more efficient. It's the "McDLT" of internal combustion engines. The hot side stays hot, and the cool side stays cool.

Sounds like you can kiss the Prius goodbye if this comes to market. This would get you the same MPG without the hybrid crap.

"It's the "McDLT" of internal combustion engines"

That was the best burger McDonald's ever made.

If they ever make a car from this engine maybe they can call it the McLTD.

will improve engine efficiency by up to 100 percent

And if you put one of those tornado thingies on the air intake, the efficiency will increase by 150%, and then add special slicky PRFE stuff to the oil...200% and then...

” which he predicts will... reduce ... nitrogen oxide emissions by 80%. “

Don’t mess with my laughing gas, Bozo. It’s the only thing that’s going to get me through this administration.

I wonder how it stays compressed when it passes from the cold to the hot cylinder. Also, I think it would have more moving parts than a conventional engine with the extra cylinder compression thingy going on. Would those extra moving parts eat up that extra power thus making it just slightly more efficient than a conventional engine?

This has to be stopped if it is true. It would make it so much harder to rape da urf. I need an engine that just spews out oil randomly so it makes it easier to rape da urf.

boy, I can’t get enough of the urf rapin’.

Thanks for the pic!Looks like two crankshafts with only one driven and the other a slave. That slave has got to eat up gobs of power.

Let me know when they’ve got one that can crank out 450hp and run a quarter mile in under 11 seconds....

I'd like to see those patent applications.

Why not put this engine in a hybrid? Get even better mileage.

Turbines are actually pretty good and also allow for a wide range of fuel. They take a bit of time to get going, however. Remember the Stanley Steamer?

Hmm. Well this at least sounds similar, with paired hot and cold cylinders:

The transfer from the cold to hot sides would be a real problem. Sound to me like pre-ignition would be very likely.
