Mitt Quit Too
American Spectator ^ | 7.6.09 @ 1:01PM | By W. James Antle, III

A number of Palin defenders have argued that Mitt Romney similarly cut and run from Massachusetts. While there is an important distinction between resigning office and declining to run for reelection -- Romney served out the entire term to which he was elected -- I basically agree with this criticism. Romney's abandonment of Massachusetts during a critical juncture in fights over health care, the budget, and the definition of marriage was the single greatest factor that shifted me from a Romney-sympathetic commentator to a critic. (The spin of Romney's flip-flops by some of his overzealous supporters played a role too, as did his health care plan.)

****

watching Romney exit the field while so many of the issues he claimed to care about were in play, leaving the commonwealth to suffer one-party Democratic rule for the first time since the Dukakis years without any serious check or challenge, was too much to take. The man who rode back into the Bay State to save the GOP from a certain disaster at the hands of Jane Swift ended up merely delaying the inevitable for four years.

Not having patience for government would’ve made him the best choice of all. We had a similar candidate in TN in 1998 who ran against the RINO incumbent Governor. The Dems despised him and mostly endorsed the RINO, but he would’ve forced them to confront many key issues that they and the RINO refused to touch as Governor.

Ironic isn't it.

I mean to support Mitt, say you are a 'Conservative" and try and sell him to actual Conservatives on the biggest conservative sites on the WWW, and at the same time saying those who oppose you have a mental disease...

They are as bad as the Rooty Rooters.

I knew you would mention weiner man along with the used car salesman. Keeping the nuts in one basket. The Savage Weenie and Romney are a perfect match of insanity an uselessness.

But more entertaining...

In many ways I hope we keep them around.

Like a ball of string...

Romney wasn’t being harassed with fraudulent law suits by the democrats at every turn either. That’s because he was not a threat to the democrats. Sarah IS! Go Sarah.

Slick Willard paid off so many to get their “support.” That was always the best indicator of whom truly deserves Conservative support... those that earn it by their actions (Palin), or those that BUY it with cold, hard cash and “promises” (Slick Willard).

Yeah, because most of the Rudy folks really never were deluded enough to actually push him as a “Rock Ribbed Conservative Champion”

They at least were usually honest about his shortcomings in that regard...

WAY worse. Besides, the Rudy supporters were booted off early, while the Slick Willardbots have been spreading their vile hate and lies for over 2 1/2 years without interruption.

That’s right: Republican primary voters only know to anoint the next-in-line. Many feel it is Romney’s turn in that George W. Rommey did not run in 1976. They have no imagination to ferret out someone good from the back tier of candidates.

Some of the worst attacks on Palin have come from the Romney camp and his supporters. That's despicable.

The three words that struck fear in the cold, dead hearts of the Slick Willardbots: “Follow the money.” That’s partly because a large number of the bots here (and all over the internet) WERE being paid by the campaign to shill.

That would be just another reason we need another party. The pubbies had better not try to ram Mitt down our throats. There will be hell to pay. McCain was the last straw!

For a great many of them it was a "calling"

I hadn't heard about that, but relatively longtime members here have certainly been vociferous in their support of him, as well as relentless in their criticism of Palin.

After further consideration, they ARE worse than the Rooty Rooters.

Generally, the Rooty Rooters at least had the integrity to admit that he was a liberal. They simply felt that conservatives had "had their foot on the throat" of the GOP for too long and we needed to elect a liberal with an "R" after his name.

The Mittens actually believe that there is such a thing as a pro-abortion, pro-homosexual marriage, pro-socialized medicine, anti-gun conservative.
