Obama's Afghanistan War of BLOOD FOR OIL: An Afghan Route for Caspian Oil
Guardian ^ | 21st Century | George Monbiot

Posted on 07/06/2009 8:03:53 AM PDT by rface

The invasion of Afghanistan is certainly a campaign against terrorism, but it may also be a late colonial adventure....

[ snip ]

Afghanistan has some oil and gas of its own, but not enough to qualify as a major strategic concern. Its northern neighbours, by contrast, contain reserves which could be critical to future global supply. [ former US Vice President Remarked ]: "I cannot think of a time when we have had a region emerge as suddenly to become as strategically significant as the Caspian." But the oil and gas there is worthless until it is moved. The only route which makes both political and economic sense is through Afghanistan.

[ snip ]

But Afghanistan's strategic importance has not changed. ..... the US energy information administration reported that "Afghanistan's significance from an energy standpoint stems from its geographical position as a potential transit route for oil and natural gas exports from central Asia to the Arabian sea. This potential includes the possible construction of oil and natural gas export pipelines through Afghanistan".

The second option is to build a pipeline south from Central Asia to the Indian Ocean. One obvious route south would cross Iran, but this is foreclosed for American companies because of U.S. sanctions legislation. The only other possible route is across Afghanistan.....

.....Afghanistan has the misfortune to lie between the last big oil reserve on the planet (Turkmenistan) and the sea.

Afghnaistan has never had a real govt and probably never will. They are stuck between Pak and Iran plus it will remain tribal forever. Keeping terrorist types out of America is the best thing to stop terrorism.

Up around Balkh oil just bubbles out of the ground naturally. There is plenty of oil in Afghanistan. The problem is our wise and beneficent State Department pushed a socialist constitution on them which makes all oil and minerals the property of the state.

Kill the poppy fields, get rid of the terrorists as best we can and get out of there. Nothing will change in the long run.

Keep in mind that “Monbiot” (this Monbiot in particular) is said by some to be the root word of “moonbat”.

Oh well, George Moonbat is usually ranting about global warming.

There is a pipeline already under construction between the Kazakh Caspian region and China. There is also one between that region and the Black Sea as well as one from Baku thru’ Turkey.

Gee George. Have you forgotten he fact that there is a war going on there? Not to mention that fact that Afghanistan is tribal. Who is going to protect those pipelines?

A pipeline would be the ultimate confidence target for every wanna-be jihadi in the region.

Shhh. Michael knows this kind of 'No Oil' thing is the 'right' thing to do because the oil isn't for American greed and consumption. This from a man who clearly knows about greed and consumption. We won't hold our breath waiting for outrage from the left regarding blood for oil.

What with its being landlocked and all, and only the stable, economically prosperous territory of Pakistan between its border and the sea.
