Fox News Still Dominant Despite CNN, MSNBC Jackson-mania

The death of Michael Jackson has been an economic stimulus for cable news networks feeling the decline of Obama-mania in a post-election year.

Everyone from Nancy Grace to Geraldo to Larry King to Keith Olbermann has jumped into a wall-to-wall, flood-the-zone media strategy since the international pop star died on Thursday, June 25.

But for news networks CNN and MSNBC, it has been a temporary help that hasn't altered the basic landscape, where Fox News still reigns supreme.

All three of the main players -- Fox News Channel, CNN and MSNBC -- bested by far their viewership average with their first day of Jackson coverage less than two weeks ago, but only Fox has managed to retain most of those viewers.

This reflects a growing trend, as Fox has become not only the top-rated cable news network, but also the third most-watched channel in all of cable.

CNN, once the titan of the industry, has recently still drawn the largest audiences for specific events like the 2008 Presidential election, but that still has not helped it rival Fox in overall viewership

“MSNBC and CNN can crawl into the grave with Jackson.”

Yup, equivalent moral character.

However, ‘twould seem that wacko jacko had a smidgen of intelligence, whilst the MSM folks - well, they believe in global warming, don’t they?

For news I only watch Fox (and some CSPAN sans the call ins) but have found myself watching less of the 8-10 lineup but rather DVRing Beck and Cavuto for watching in the evening.

Man, man that’s harsh. At least Jackson was entertaining.

By Friday, any time a “news channel” began mewling about MJ I automatically flipped the channel..including when FNC did it. I have no animosity towards MJ, I was a fan once, and really hoped the Child molestation charges would be proven nothing more than a trumped up blackmail scheme....Buty what’s been done with his death, is rediculous. The whole world did not stop and turn to L.A.. The world and 7 Billion people went on doing things and making news.

I was really grateful for Hulu, and Amazons VoD service during this last week.
