As long as the Alaska governorship is in safe hands, her Lt Gov can run as an incumbent, and when and if they win, Sarah Palin’s move will look like there was no loss for the R's in Alaska; and that she will not have run for reelection while maintaining the farce that she is only “listening” to people who want her to be President.
That farce is very common, as the Senator / Governor who JUST win’s reelection while saying he was running for Senate “to be a Senator / Governor” suddenly decides that they were REALLY running for was a safe elected office to run for President from.
Time will tell.
I am optimistic.

You know I decided that your post deserved a more serious reply, because you make a point that is worthy of discussion amid the baseless and typical barbs I have been seeing, such things as calling her unqualified (vs. Obama et al?) and not worthy of serious people (serious people? like Thomas Sowell?)
Yes, Gov. Sarah Palin stepped down. Does that mean she broke her oath, or respected in the highest possible way?
Does that oath require her to do what is best for her state and its people?
Is your argument then that she stays, costing her state millions fighting all of these ethics charges that would have never ended?
Is it your argument that she would be upholding her oath by remaining in office, distracted time and again by the pettiness of her detractors as they assault her, her family and her political allegiances day in and day out?
Is that your argument?
I counter that.
Sarah Palin acted the best traditions of the true public servant, she did not step down, she got out of the way.

The American people are not enamored of quitters. And yet they love those teams that know when to "quit" playing defense and put the offense back on the field.

Beckett, you must live on either the east or west coast....In which case youll NEVER get it! Are you a hunting member of the NRA? Ever skin an animal? Run a race on a dirt road? Grow your own FOOD? Let your clothes dry out on the line? Bet you live in an AC house and have restaurants within a couple miles of your home....*****************
With all due respect, hoosiermama, with a few exceptions, you could be describing me.
Yet I am a Palin supporter.

We are going to need Independents and Democrats to join us to achieve that.At the rate things are going, by 2012 they might be 'dying' to vote for Palin.

I think we underestimate ourselves and have been duped into submission by the MSM.
I live in a "liberal" state (CA) and my man on the street polling finds that conservative/commie is about 50/50. I used to think that collaboration with the enemy was the only way to gain anything in politics, but the rhino moderates GW and McCain proved that wrong.
and look at how well the dems did with their radical extremist candidate

OK, I've been around as long as Beckett...
Can I bash beckett? Is it ok???? Do I have your permission??
Probably should not be quite so dismissive of Sarah Palin. She didn't strike me as a quitter in her speech. Was beckett a Mitt Romney supporter during the last campaign? Most of her conservative or Republican detractors seem to have another reason to bash her. I see a pattern of developing... Mitt Romney supporters mostly.
To: spacejunkie01
Unfortunately, she has also "thrown off" the pundits who were her biggest champions. The ones she'll need in the future for any political aspirations. Poor Bill Kristol sounded like a rape victim this morning.
That's why it's looking more and more like she's stepping off the world stage and into the family kitchen.
Bless her.

How ?? The messiah was in the senate for less than 4 years and this Chicago Thug is in the WH dismantling it as we post. Palin was Governor longer than Barry was in the Senate !
Palin needed to confront her attackers immediately on eastern time and not on the Alaska time zone plus stop the Axelrod / Rahm astroturfing her with a sea of phony ethics complaint articles in the Obama media . If you do not understand why the Obama WH smear teams had to be stopped by this move then read this

beckett insults other Freepers and you think has that right because of the time he/she has been here on FR? BS! beckett made mention of leaving FR - no one told him/her to leave.
beckett invites the criticism received.

Bill’s going to be sitting pretty for years to come for having gone out on a limb and been right about Palin: he just has to not wimp out over the next few weeks before he starts to be proved correct.
