Once a political opponent is “killed” - out of politics, deemed to be unelectable to any office in this life, like George Allen and Rick Santorum - the conservative is pretty much left alone to earn a living and be a private citizen, even permitted to comment on politics, just not participate. If Sarah does that, she and her family will be fine.

Once the opponent is politically dead, they move on to the next conservative. No sense wasting resources on a former opponent who has left the scene and is forgotten. It may be that we are moving on to the next stage, the one that Stalin and others carried out by actually physically killing their opponents. That remains to be seen, but for now “death” is simply political annihilation.
