Why did Sarah Palin step down?
Theories abound. But some of the people closest to the Alaska governor say she wanted to regain control of a political script that slipped out of her hands the moment she burst onto the national stage. She also wanted to shield herself and her family from the attacks that seem to have been aimed permanently at them in the 311 days since Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) announced her as his running mate, according to some former campaign aides and other advisers who speak regularly with Palin or her husband, Todd.
The Sarah Palin who stood outside her Wasilla, Alaska, lakefront home Friday to surrender her term with 18 months remaining appeared vulnerable and anything but the pugnacious hockey mom and combative candidate whom Americans came to either adore or revile. The woman who said she would never blink suddenly...

It’s entertaining reading what passes for “liberal logic”.
They’re incredibly afraid of her. Good.
I was glad to hear her lawyer saying this morning that they WILL sue if people don’t stop disparaging her and making up lies about her and her family.
It has really been beyond the pale.
Consider the source.
Gibberish. Your concern is feigned.
I think what this shows is that conservatives here on FR are SO desperate for a viable true conservative candidate that we want to force Sarah into that image.
I was going to say ‘bullshit’, but feigned works too.
Notice how often thinly veiled sexism and disdain for women play into these “concern” comments?
I know its the 4th of July weekend, but lay off the the bottle.
Stop the sexism too.
Probably a common occurrence in the life of Ev.

I’d comment about how Hillary! gets a pass (even here!) but then, it’s not been confirmed that she’s a woman. ;)
Didn’t read her speech did you? Or the one she made yesterday either, did you? Or, and this seems likely, you are just a Sarah hater taking this opportunity to bash her. Sarah made a calculated political move. She is not out of the game and she is going to run in 2012. Her speeches told us all why she did it and what she expects to do after she resigns, it isn’t her fault that you, and others, simply can’t understand what she said and take it at face value.
Why is it that if you dont follow the “formula” (if you will) given by Washington or the media you are a train wreck. We are witnessing a new day. Its Independence day from the norm of now. She is done and we are done with what is going on in our country now.
Lets Roll!
I am completely flummoxed and flabbergasted over this.
Life is so unfair, isn’t it?
Your post is just offensive and diminishing of all women. Palin has proven a more effective political executive than the vast, vast, vast majority of political men. She just changed the game in her favor.
I also share your puzzlement with regards to her resigning.....
.....but to say she was trying for a "political comeback" is to accept that she was somehow knocked out of it in November.
The ticket lost because of the RINO McCain, the stupid anti-Bush vote, and Obama is black. Palin was the only positive on the Republican side.
MSNBC and the other TV news channels are constantly in anti-Palin frenzy mode because they fear her. She was never out of it because she was being targeted simply for the threat she poses.
That said, she may have misinterpreted the anti-Palin mode of the news outlets as negative public sentiment towards her and made a poor judgment as a result. I'll giver her the benefit of the doubt for now.
Yep.
Seen it time and time again in every Palin thread that’s been posted.
Or the other canard of ‘not enough experience’.
More BS from the ‘hate Palin’ crowd.
Maybe it's time for a nap.
She had to do a reset in order to be able to concentrate on the national scene. She’ll concentrate on 2010 by promoting conservatives and the conservative agenda; she’ll move on to 2012 per her schedule.
Dems and RINOs should be afraid.
Conservatives should support her PAC.
