Washington -- President Barack Obama's landmark bill on energy and global warming squeaked through the House this week only after the White House made dozens of concessions to coal, manufacturing and other interests. As the battle moves to the Senate, Obama faces demands for more concessions, including to open the coastline to offshore oil and gas drilling.
The Senate will take up issues that were glossed over or omitted from the House bill. Among them is giving the government sweeping new powers to overcome local objections and approve thousands of miles of new transmission lines to carry electricity to coastal cities from wind turbines in the Upper Midwest and solar power generators in the Southwest.
With Republicans forming a near-solid opposition and many Democrats concerned about the impact of parts of the bill on constituents, the prospect is for a long, tough battle.

Its just plain wrong.
Have you heard about:
Americans In Name Only
Snowe, Collins, McCain will march in lock step with the socialists on Cap & Trade.
Yep, and we will lock step them right out of office.
They all knew this was coming. Sen. Lugar registered 604 acres of black walnut trees in 2006, on the Chicago Climate Exchange.
He could vote no, and claim to be conservative while as the bill passes he's already on the market to make money.

They should all get the Bernie Madoff treatment and serve 150 years in jail. This is worse than insider trading.

They always do, don’t they?
Hope McCain is dumb enough to do this, it will sink his re-election bid for sure.
Has he issued any statements this weekend on her resignation? I know he was campaigning up at the Prescott Rodeo yesterday.
He will cave on something big. Whether it’s amnesty, cap-and-tax, or only God knows what else...it will hopefully sink him in 2010.
Really makes you wonder why Republicans ran a wimpy Democrat as their presidential nominee.
