Republican Senator John McCain expressed support for his former presidential running mate, Sarah Palin, on Saturday as Washington speculated about why the Alaska governor abruptly announced her resignation.

McCain made the comment a day after Palin stunned the political world by announcing she is stepping down with 18 months left in her term.

McCain had plucked Palin from obscurity to make her his vice presidential running mate in last year's presidential campaign won by Democrat Barack Obama...

>> McCain had plucked Palin from obscurity

Yeah he discovered her sipping fizz at the corner drugstore. Sheesh, how obscure is a state governor?

McCain had plucked Palin from obscurity

Tell the REAL truth: she plucked HIM from obscurity. I gave my first campaign contribution in over 37 years; and it was strictly because of her.

ME TOO. Never gave a dime in my life to any politician or campaign. The second I saw Sarah called the next day and made a donation. I was nervous cause I had never done it before, didn’t know what to expect, and I talked to the woman on the other line for about 10 minutes, telling her how this money is FOR Sarah, and how the ONLY reason why I am donating is because of HER

Too bad McCain doesn't play a leadership role as current Senator.

"I have the greatest respect and affection for Sarah, Todd, and their family. I was deeply honored to have her as my running mate and believe she will continue to play an important leadership role in the Republican Party and our nation," McCain said in a statement e-mailed to Reuters.

What a frackin' PANTLOAD!!! FReepers: Any of you who believe this CRAP are full of SHIT if you believe this open-borders, throw-Sarah-under-the-bus con man.

I'm not drinking the 0bama/Juan McCain Cool-Aid.

McCain needs to be the loser GOP poster boy for reelection bid failure in 2010.

I hope she can help the GOP ticket in 2010, and I think she will in red states. I don't believe she is electable on the top of the ticket though. The media and tabloids would slice her up so bad it would make 2008 look like a love fest. If the GOP really wants to go for a win, they will nominate Duncan Hunter or Haley Barbour, someone without the extreme baggage. I think it was really a questionable decision for her to resign like that. More ammo for the MSN. Ok i am ready to get beat up now....

They are despicable and as such can never pass up an opportunity to get an insult or snide remark in:

Her decision, announced in a rambling, disjointed statement

LOL. Duncan Hunter does have some solid credentials but he looks like the archetypal ward healer or Mafia Don.In this media saturated age he would be a disaster.

I do not trust John McCain. There’s an ulterior motive.

Every single poster on FR could have come up with a more passionate statement and we didn’t spend 7 weeks on the campaign trail with her. This statement reeks. It’s sad when Mike Huckabee is able to muster up a more passionate response in support of her.

I do believe he would win in a landslide once people got to know him. He is a solid conservative from California and by 2012 people should be craving that. He looks and ACTS presidential, something I cant say palin brings to the table yet.

There is something very fishy about McCain NOW extending support for Palin. This is the first time he has since November 4th, that I know of.

The timing is weird. Was this SOB quietly counseling her behind the scenes?

I want to know whose counsel she is sought and what they told her. If I were to find out that McCain suggested she should step down, and that he could help her make contacts in the lower 48, I would be livid.

Maybe he is afraid she will campaign against him in Arizona, you know for a conservative senator candidate.

I think he saw her as his biggest threat in 2012.

I also think he would see this move of hers as a possible killer of her greater political future.
