Unfortunately I am unable to attend this event at Southfork Ranch (yes, JR Ewing's place!) due to the high temps (100 degrees at this moment 4:45 pm) but Breitbart has provided live video stream of the events there.
Well, I just got back. It was HOT! I got there around 3:30pm. Heard most of the speakers, and about half of the music. The jazz was pretty good. I should have brought more water than I did. I have to say that I wish the speakers had put more political meat into their presentations. There was a lot of rah-rah, without a lot of action points. Michelle was pretty good, though again, a lot of what she said was pretty basic stuff. I got the feeling that a lot of the speeches were written on the assumption that there would be a lot of political neophytes in the audience. And, while there probably were, I think it would have been just as well-received if the speeches had been more “advanced”, if you will. Other than that, the whole thing was well-run.
There were a lot of vendors there, a mix of political causes, conservative-leaning products (DIY gutter covers, home finance, self-contained utility trailers w/ water, power for several days etc). There was one “green” power company that pushed wind/water-generated electricity, that I thought was a little off-target, as most conservatives I have seen feel that wind is a bit of a pipedream, even backstopped by hydro, whereas clean coal, nuclear, and new ultra-efficient natgas steam turbine plants are ok.
I estimate that there were probably at least 5000 attendees there, possibly more. It did get more crowded as the evening wore on, and I didn’t walk around as much, so there may have been more. I saw 3 named network trucks there, and one unlabeled one. Overall a good party. I did expect there to be more of a “follow me, I’ll lead the way” element to it, instead of a bunch of folks getting together to hold up signs, listen to music, and watch the (decent) fireworks.
I suspect the heat was a big deterent to people attending.
