There have been a number of seminal queries which our elders used to define game-changing moments in Americas cultural evolution. Where were you when JFK was shot? Where were you when Neil Armstrong set foot on the moon? For me, although it will likely wind up as a Trivial Pursuit bonus round question, one of the treasured turning points may well be: Where were you when Sarah Palin decided to commit political suicide?
The odd thing is that I was up in the mountains, forcing myself into a period of decompression from the political theater. I likely wouldnt have even known that Governor Palin had decided to resign her office had I not been taking time out from fruitless bass fishing to moderate the chat for Ed Morrisseys daily show.
The first questions arose in a predictable pattern, since initial reports were grossly lacking in detail. The most horrific scenarios dominated: Was she sick? Was there some tragedy unfolding with her family? The second, and more likely scenario in my view, was that a clever reporter had finally unearthed a bit of discomfiture and asked the governor for comment. In that case, the pending resignation would prove to be a preemptive move to circle the wagons and prepare for the onslaught to come. When an elected official spends so much time and money fighting allegations of ethical misconduct, it should hardly come as a surprise if one of them stuck to the wall...

Just to elaborate, you’re a liar claiming you love/like Sarah while you insult our intelligence and make insinuations smearing her character. You are a liar. Your ilk have been stinking up FR for too long, making claims of ‘conservative’ and ‘fan of Reagan’ while sewing your filthy rhetoric left and right seeking to create confusion and discord. You’re a liar.
So it is political suicide to want to extricate yourself from a crossfire of venom, ridicule and character assassination and prove to the world that you are not a masochist.
What I hope she does is work for conservative Reps and Senators in fundraising/get out the vote campaigns. This is is her strength and where she can do the most good. However I think her national aspiration for higher office are dead. I know that is not the popular view here, but we should try to be a little realistic. Half a term as Governor of Alaska is not great experience to run on and the fact that she quit midstream regardless of the reasoning is a knife through the heart. Anybody who tries to compare this with Reagan’s years in the wilderness before running for president is conveniently forgetting he had served two FULL terms as governor of one of the largest, richest, ost mpopulous states in the union.
Okay .. all is forgiven.
You’re correct .. a lot more disruptors have shown up here in recent years.
However, they soon tire of this site and return to Huffington Post or DU to laugh at the things we say. Who cares.
But .. you missed the most fun when GW was running in 2000. Those disruptors would purpose to start a fight by making some off the wall comment about Bush or Cheney. A couple of their friends would join the discussion, and the war was on. It was a game - and the end result was for the disruptors to watch the Freepers go ballistic over the disruptor’s comments. Unfortunately for the disruptors, we discovered what they were doing and started laughing at them. Poor things, I don’t think they ever recovered.
You’re leaving behind one little thing: Palin’s speech yesterday.
Everything she said contradicts your opinion. So the only way for you to continue believing it is to completely disregard Palin’s own words.
But you’re such a Palin supporter and your really love her, right?
Just give up now, for your own self respect.
I was wondering the same thing.
Didn't miss a thing...got here in the late 90's. :-)
Why? I think it was a very smart move. I will support her 100% when she runs. She seems to be the only outspoken conservative connected with the Republican party nowadays.
It’s a paradiso of MittBots on here, thank goodness it’s time for some burgers and fireworks soon.
...and tom the Lyndon LaRouche nutjob...wow, haven’t heard from him in a looooooong time.
Ever heard the term ‘faint praise’? Bless your poor little heart, you have reading comprehension problems. Do you treat those close to you whom you might claim to love the same way you treat Sarah Palin—claiming you love her, then spouting a smear to her character?
The critics are saying this circa 2009....but what about 2012 when this economy has gone gonzo, people are POed, and are ready to find someone new?
This is like Texas hold’m.....I need to see the flop and the opening bets first before I render final judgement.
Do yourself a favor and listen to Palin’s speech from yesterday.
It will force you to change your opinion, but you will feel a lot smarter.
I find it highly amusing that the MSM, lefties and some on the right and insisting that Sarah Palin is now done for. They dont know that, of course, but they are throwing an awful lot of pennies into their wishing well.
so that’s where the DNC gets is funds !!!!!
HOWEVER, as you note so pointedly, she can and likely will helping real conservatives in their election bids for 2010. In a few short years, she might even have brought enough real conservatives to Washington, DC so that her genuine conservative principles will again be of value to the American voters. It will be interesting to watch what happens in the coming months as Republicans may try to regain the House and Senate from the Marxist scum that run the democrap party now.
I don't expect Sarah Palin will show up for just anyone in the coming weeks. It is sad that she had to come upon the stage in the company of rino McCain, one of the weaker emirs of incumbenistan.
Saint Sarah shall rise from the dead!
Hyperbole or idolatry?
I thought that was the real of Obama????
Google: sarah palin federal indictment
July 4th
Just goes to show that photoshop and a Kinkos office can get you anywhere....just ask the guy who gave the fake documents to Dan Rather in 2004.
