Dole Quits Senate To Campaign Full Time
ALL Politics / CNN / Time ^ | May 15, 1996 | AllPolitics

WASHINGTON (AllPolitics, May 15) -- Sen. Robert Dole (R-Kan.) electrified Washington today, resigning from the Senate to campaign full time for the White House (256K WAV sound).

"I announce that I will forego the privileges not only of the office of the majority leader but of the United States Senate itself, from which I resign effective on or before June 11th," a choked-up Dole told a Capitol Hill news conference, flanked by Republican lawmakers and a few Democrats. "And I will then stand before you without office or authority, a private citizen, a Kansan, an American, just a man."

...

Republicans, who learned of Dole's intentions early today, were quick to laud the decision. "This is exactly the right thing to do," House Speaker Newt Gingrich told reporters after the announcement. Praising the boldness of the strategy, Gingrich said it was the most effective speech he had heard Dole give. Republican National Committee Chairman Haley Barbour said Dole's decision was "absolutely" right.

Obama's autobiography certainly helped him become president.

I doubt he would have won without it.

A book by Palin could help her.

We're back to where we began in this circuitous discussion, aren't we?

And though many came out to vote for her, she still came up short on delivering those votes in the end.

Sarah delivered and then some. McCain was the one who came up short on delivering the votes - he was the one who's name was at the top of the ticket!

No, they were all up last night smacking down your buddies. Probably still asleep. You’ll be hearing from them soon enough.

Well, as you know there were a bunch of evangelicals who hate Mormons with a passion that were supporting Huckabee and Bashing Romney.
They’ve all moved on the form the core of the PalinChoir who believe St. Sarah can do no wrong, and see the evil hand of Romney now in everything that undermines her.
The Katie Couric interview - Romney’s fault!
Palin resigning - Romney’s fault!
And so on.

I was a Fred Thompson supporter in 2008, and a vocal one at that.
I have no horse in the race right now outside of thinking Newt Gingrich would make the race interesting and elevate the discourse a bit from the low of 2008.

I’ve had both positive and negative things to say about Romney in the past.
I don’t believe he’s the root of all evil as the HuckaBots do, nor do I think he is the best the GOP has to offer.

Not sure how any of that makes me a “Romneybot”.
Truth is, none of it does.
I’m a “Romneybot” to this little cabal because I refuse to get onboard the crazy train to Palin-town.

She’s only the leader if the example is to resign.

See my new tagline.

Not all Palin supporters are as passionate as you’d think. They could easily “like” - not “super double like”, but “like” - Palin, but hate McCain. The fact that Palin was VP and not POTUS could easily cause them to embrace their McCain hating side. Since both you and I are both pulling figures out of our butts, let’s say that 6 mil stayed home, and 2 mil voted for Obama. Or 4 mil stayed home and 3 mil for Obama.

There was a lot of passion for Palin on FR, as well as all around the country, but there are always less politically active voters, who weren’t quite as passionate.

Another interesting thing to consider is the notion of Firsts. Either Palin or Obama would give you a first.
The people went for the bigger first. 1st black Pres is bigger than 1st woman VP. But, in 2012, 1st woman Pres is bigger than 1st black Pres reelected.

No, they both came up short.
Neither of them could attract the votes needed.
Both combined pulled in fewer votes than 0bama did alone.

Palin is a threat to the status quo. She shakes up the old guard of the Republican party. And they are afraid of losing their lofty perches so they tear her down.

Perhaps instead of comparing her to My Turn Bob,
it would be more accurate to describe her as Pat Buchanan.

Once again, Romney wasn’t at the top of my list in 2008 or now.
But Huckabee was at the bottom then, and shares it with Palin now.
And that has a lot to do with their (shared) supporters.

The nasty HuckaBots have returned with a new Queen.

You have to know that the consensus last year was that Palin was a great pick, and we loved it. There were many here who said that Palin and only Palin could make them vote for McCain. When McCain picked Palin, they were happy. The Huck people weren’t pushing for Palin before she was picked, although I’d assume that they were happy with her as the pick.

I agree with you.

While all Romneybots are, by definition, whackjobs, one can be deemed a whackjob irrespective of his Romneybots status, as you have amply proven.

You’ve got it backwards.
You and your friends started with the “Romneyite” stuff.
That’s what gave away that you were all former HuckaBots.
Only the HuckaBots have that much seething hatred for Romney.

No wonder you’re always pinging you posse for help.

You’re really not very good at this.

Just sit on the sidelines for a while and learn from the master.

Ever since the election and before, Romney has tried to emulate Obama and Axelrod's "astro-turfing technique by sending out his paid operatives into the Conservative blogosphere to gin up support, one way or the other. There are a number of them here.

One them, former-FReeper Matt Braynard blew his cover on May 23 and got himself banned in a most spectacular way. Check that thread, and you will see how these goons operate.
