Hitler? He got things done, says Formula One chief Bernie Ecclestone
(Ben Gurr/The Times)
Bernie Ecclestone, the Formula One chief, said yesterday that he preferred totalitarian regimes to democracies and praised Adolf Hitler for his ability to get things done.
In an outspoken interview with The Times, the 78-year-old billionaire chastised contemporary politicians for their weakness and extolled the virtues of strong leadership.
Mr Ecclestone said: In a lot of ways, terrible to say this I suppose, but apart from the fact that Hitler got taken away and persuaded to do things that I have no idea whether he wanted to do or not, he was in the way that he could command a lot of people, able to get things done.
In the end he got lost, so he wasnt a very good dictator because either he had all these things and knew what was going on and insisted, or he just went along with it . . . so either way he wasnt a dictator. He also rounded on democracy, claiming that it hasnt done a lot of good for many countries including this one [Britain].
Politicians are too worried about elections, he said. We did a terrible thing when we supported the idea of getting rid of Saddam Hussein. He was the only one who could control that country. It was the same [with the Taleban]. We move into countries and we have no idea of the culture. The Americans probably thought Bosnia was a town in Miami. There are people starving in Africa and we sit back and do nothing but we get involved in things we should leave alone.

"Mr Ecclestone, who plunged the Blair Government into a row about donations in 1997 after it emerged that he had given the party £1 million, has a reputation for being outspoken. Last month he said that Formula One needed a black, Jewish woman who, if possible, wins some races.
Ecclestone always has been a dictator & tyrant as far as F1 goes.
There was a Star Trek Episode along the same lines as this...
Someone should ask him if he prefers being a lampshade or a bar of soap.
You control a country by murdering it’s soccer players.
By throwing people alive into huge industrial shredders.
By paying the families of suicide bombers when the murder and maim innocent Israelis.
You control a country by raping the young girls in your country.
You control a country by gassing the Kurds.
Yeah, Hitler really only wanted to kill 5 million Jews, but he got "taken away" and killed 6 million.
OK, so what? A shallow thinking rich guy shares his stupid ideas. And exactly how does this differ from movies stars and celebritites who want to give us their “wisdom”?
Yeah, I’m sure by May 1945, the (surviving) Germans were grateful for all Hitler got done for them.
Mr. Ecclestone here displays his own astonishing stupidity by revealing that he's apparently clueless that Miami (a major US city and one of the world's most popular destinations for British holiday-goers) is not a region or a state.
Whew. Yeah Hitler got a lot done. Destroyed Europe. Made Stalin even stronger.
But, if you want to see why he failed, go to youtube and type in “Hitler nigerian email.”
parsy, who wonders if people will ever learn.
Will egomaniacs ever learn?
Tristan, anyone may say almost anything about Adolf Hitler without eliciting any criticism. But to make him responsible for making “Stalin even stronger” is that one in a trillion groaner.
If Hitler had quit after Dunkirk. Not invaded Russia. And dropped all that jew-killing crap, he might have been a great leader. BUT HE DIDN’T! He killed like 6-12 million innocent people for Pete’s sake. He left his country a pile of a bombed out ruins.
And here’s what scares me. I don’t think he was some kind of super-evil maniac. Not a cartoon like Lex Luthor giggling maniacally. I think he was a normal run-of-the-mill evil little sh*t who had access to the power to do evil.
IMHO, there are 10,000 Hitlers in every major city across the country, and probably the world. With the right circumstances, it will happen again. Chavez is probably one. That’s what scares me and why power needs to be diffused.
parsy, who is going to write a couple of Hitler books one of these days.
Yeah...I'm sure Hitler must have been persuaded do do all those beastly things against his will, probably by Methodists. By this statement alone, BE shows that he's either mentally incompetent or certifiably insane. He and Ted Turner must have been separated at birth.
“Hitler, now there was a painter. He could paint an entire apartment in one afternoon. TWO COATS!!!”
There are people starving in Africa and we sit back and do nothing but we get involved in things we should leave alone.
You mean like dumping the dictators that are stealing the peoples food? So that what we give actually reaches the starving inhabitants of third world totalitarian regimes.
Bernie, Bernie, Bernie. I would say you are entitled to your opinion, and your money, but please don’t try to come to my country. We have enough small minded ignorant people already.
One for the F1 ping list?
Without the war, wouls Stalin have been able to pull an iron Curtain over half of Europe? Or execise influence over Red China, North Korea? etc.
I think Stalin could never have launched a successful offensive war. But to defend Mother Russia! Watch the boy go.
parsy, who doesn’t think he was wrong, but sure has an open mind.
“he was in the way that he could command a lot of people, able to get things done”.
Yeah, I guess the Jews “might” agree with that except in terms of the results. What an idiot. If he survives a statement like this something’s definitely wrong. The old bastard should be put in confinement immediately.
Absolutely, without German rearmament it is certainly possible that all of Europe would have fallen to Communism, In fact it is even very likely.
