Prepping for a run for president?
MSNBC ^ | July 3, 2009 | Howard Fineman

Posted on 07/03/2009 4:14:52 PM PDT by Plutarch

WASHINGTON - I have covered politics for a long time. I can tell when someone is running for president. Sarah Palin is running for president.

On a sunny (slow news) day in Wasilla, Alaska, the governor and former GOP vice presidential candidate appeared before the cameras and   announced that she was stepping down as the state's chief executive 18 months before her term expires.

Just like that — like the distant sound of a chain saw in a stand of northern pines — the 2012 Republican race lurched into gear.

Palin is not the front-runner — there IS no front-runner — but she potentially is a major player in the Republican contest, her disastrous turn as John McCain’s running mate notwithstanding.

Why now? Why this minute? Well, perhaps there is scandal lurking...it’s worth noting that both the timing and the manner of Palin’s announcement were pretty shrewd...

Will MSNBC go broke already?

Perhaps the likes of Soros won't allow it.

The only fact anyone knows is she has resigned. Any ideas as to why she resigned are mere speculation until she has further comment. Although it is hard to imagine she resigned simply to have more time baking cookies for her kids.

Has Fineman come out of the closet yet. I am sure he is some gay guy’s girlfriend.

We can hope it's to run but who could blame her if she did step down to bake cookies after all the mud slinging.

This does not make any sense as far as running for President with only 2 1/2 years as governor of Alaska I don't think she will have a credible background for a run. She has been relentlessly smeared and her whole persona would be working against her. I would think being a media person would be a better bet for her considering these actions. Is Fox hiring?

I think Palin made a questionable career move but it is obvious from this article liberals are still scared to death of her.

Once again.....

I think her strategy is outstanding. Making this announcement on the 3rd of July, when all government offices are closed, Obama is on vacation at Camp David, and most media services, which lack in any credibility in fair and balanced reporting are floundering, she will capture all attention for 3 full days with no opposition. While the State Controlled Media will be tripping over each other on speculations, she and her family will have the time of their lives watching the Media Meltdown.

I can see Sarah being a professional fundraiser.
She could pick and choose the candidates she wants to support, in the Primaries and in the General elections.

She would then have a national base of support to draw upon, for her own run.

Why doesn’t she move to Texas and run for KB Hutchison’s empty seat in 2010? How about it, Texas? Would you vote for her?

Sarah will appear on many talk shows, write a book, appear again, speak at various conferences, speak out against Obama, speak for various candidate who she will help to elect, appear on more talk shows, be featured in magazines of her choice, write a blog or write a syndicated columns for newspapers, speak out more against Obama, unite the party. Become the candidate of common sense.

Any ideas as to why she resigned are mere speculation until she has further comment. I just don't understand, she has given a speech and released a official statement which goes into great detail as to her reasons. All sound in my opinion.

I think Palin’s new career will be professional fundraiser. She could raise big bucks for pro-life events, charities for autistic children, and help fund the warchests of conservatives.

Like Ross Perot in the 1990 race, Palin can be a contender with or without a party.

Unlike Perot, she is both a conservative and unlikely to jump in and out of the race.

I can see Sarah being a professional fundraiser.

She could make like Ronaldus Maximus 1976-1980. A lot of support for Republican candidates, and leading the charge on a signature issue, as did Reagan on the Panama Canal Treaty.

Palin will be fund-raising gold for conservative Republican candidates. Nothing like helping raise hundreds of millions to get strange new respect from the political class.

Scrappy though she is, Palin is no rocket scientist. Her knowledge of the issues and of the wider world remains shallow and incomplete. In some respects, her family life is a monument to confusion, if not hypocrisy, about Traditional Family Values. The cutesy-pie thing is fading fast, and isn’t the route (as Tina Fey proved) to Margaret Thatcher-hood”

I know it's not a good/rational reason...but it wouldn't be impossible to persaud me to vote for her based only on Howard Fineman’s Ad hominem attack.

I agree. Huckabee’s show on Fox News Channel has been a real bomb. Can’t possibly last a lot longer. Let’s hope FNC will give her a shot at replacing him!
