I didn't think the latest post-mortem on Sarah Palin would cause much of a ripple.
..Well, I was wrong. Never underestimate the extent of the media's Palin fascination. The article has triggered another round of finger-pointing among conservative strategists and pundits.
Yet another angle--a "sexier" one, if you will--comes under scrutiny from Atlantic's Ta-Nehisi Coates...
"Purdum thinks the mere mention of this notion invites attacks from people who spend their days waiting to accuse people of sexism. He is wrong. They invite attacks from people who wonder why he's speaking as though there have been a parade of women who have scaled the national political heights. In the literal sense, there has only been one other--Geraldine Ferraro. Thus Purdum is basically arguing that Palin is better looking than Ferraro. A more charitable interpretation throws Hillary Clinton into the mix.

"A more charitable interpretation throws Hillary Clinton into the mix.
Ouch!
“Thus Purdum is basically arguing that Palin is better looking than Ferraro.”
If that’s the case, I doubt he’l find many who disagree, no matter how far left they lean. I certainly won’t argue that point.
I will say this as my opinion and please feel free to disagree. The reason anybody, particularly libs, wants any substitute for Sarah Palin is that they are scared to death of her charisma and her political potential.
Its a shame that so many on FR feel they can call Palin a light weight. It was the major media that painted Palin with the light weight brush in an attempt to destroy her. There was a rookie senator that was a real light weight, whom the major media now has elevated to the status of One that can do no wrong. Palin is the governor of the state of Alaska. There is nothing light weight about achieving that position.
So to hell with the media and start calling them on their double standards.
I’d say you’re on the mark. Several folks here have noted that Gov. Palin would not still be in the news if the left didn’t see her as a serious threat.
She has her faults, but one of my favorite things about her is how she gets libtards to foam at the mouth.
Even if we concede for the sake of argument that Palin was a bit green to run for Veep last time, I’ve heard she’s a quick learner and would be much better prepared next time around. I think some on the left - and even on the right - are afraid of that possibility
I did not consider Sarah Palin a lightweight, in my view she was perfect for the job she was being considered for, Vice President, however if she wishes to step up to be a Presidential Candidate, Gov Palin will have to show more depth and adroitness.
And I adore Sarah Palin both the person and the Governor as well as the potential Candidate, however when one wants to step up to a higher level, one must show more skills, what worked in College will not work in the NFL as it were.
We have witnessed the meteoric rise of the unknown Barrabk Omama who is still playing at the high school level. I think Sarah Palin could get elected.
The reason that the left fears Palin so much is that she puts the lie to everything that the left believes. They think of conservatives as dour, judgmental, sour pusses, who sit around eating unhealthy foods and getting fat.
Palin has a successful career, a supportive husband, a long term marriage. She gave birth to a downs syndrome baby instead of aborting him. She lives in a suburb, goes to church and was active in the PTA. Oh, and she is attractive and in good physical shape. She has it all, everything a liberal woman wants and yet, she rejects everything a liberal woman “feels”.
“however if she wishes to step up to be a Presidential Candidate, Gov Palin will have to show more depth and adroitness.”
Your placing an artificial standard on Gov Palin that the media and voters would never place on a democrat. There are more clowns then I can number on the democratic side of the aisle but their constituents are not concerned about their ability or inability to serve. Palin has done a good job as governor. I think there is something else behind your “concern”.
