Powell airs doubts on Obama agenda
The Washington Times ^ | 7/3/09 | Jon Ward

Colin Powell, one of President Obama's most prominent Republican supporters, expressed concern Friday that the president's ambitious blitz of costly initiatives may be enlarging the size of government and the federal debt too much.

"I'm concerned at the number of programs that are being presented, the bills associated with these programs and the additional government that will be needed to execute them," Mr. Powell said in an excerpt of an interview with CNN's John King, released by the network Friday morning.

Mr. Powell, a retired U.S. army general who rose to political prominence after a long and accomplished military career, said that health care reform and many of Mr. Obama's other initiatives are "important" to Americans.

But, he said, "one of the cautions that has to be given to the president -- and I've talked to some of his people about this -- is that you can't have so many things on the table that you can't absorb it all."

"And we can't pay for it all," said Mr. Powell, who was the first African-American to serve as secretary of state, under former President George W. Bush. He was also national security adviser to President Reagan, and was chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff under President George H.W. Bush from 1989 to 1993.

Colin Powell is living proof that racists come in all colors. He supported Obama simply because of black skin.

Hopeful, this will make it ok for moderates to peel off Obama without feeling they’re racists, for whatever reason that was a dynamic.

Great - he gets Obama elected. Obama then starts doing everything he said he would do to punish America, and now Powell has the nerve to criticize him.

Too bad he didn't look into Obammie the Commie's past, his associates, the writing his claims as his own, before he endorsed him.

Instead, he endorsed him for the black side of his bloodline.

We're better off without you, racist.

It’s better than a wholesale endorsement of O’s agenda.

Let’s hope it’s the tip of an avalanche of people bailing on the TOTUS.

But, but Collin, didn't you just recently say that bigger government and more taxes (which means more spending) is what us everyday Americans want?

You seem to be speaking out of both sides of your mouth all the time now Collin.

Thanks for your service in the military...but you attempts in politics and on policy are an abject disaster.

Here's what you need to know about the man you supported...or did you take the time to look? Or did you really care?

I had a much better opinion of him as a military man and a general.

As a political appointee or politician or political pundit ... he is not worth the time to listen to.

.....have government that is solving the problems of the people."

Powell is wrong on so many levels about so many things, but this one should be highlighted.

Private enterprise and the individual solves problems. "Government" solutions are usually ham-handed, one-size-fits-all, never means tested, always costly, and usually lead to unintended consequences.

The term Powell hates (limited government) also means keeping government out of our lives - what cars you can buy, what light bulbs you can use, standing between you and your doctor, etc.

It sounds like Powell buys in to Barry's non-Constitutional understanding of the Constitution, that is, they think the Constitution is a 'charter of negative liberties'.

Well, they are WRONG, dead WRONG, and DANGEROUSLY WRONG.

How does someone get to Captain after only seeing 2 weeks of action in Vietnam and missing the rest of his time after stepping on a stake in the ground? How does someone go from Captain to 4-star General sitting behind a desk? Powell is not a “war hero”, as Biden called him. He rode his way up the ladder by being the token black of the Rockefeller RINOs in the Ford and Bush Administrations.

Not only can he not make up his mind, he has lost his mind. The man borders on being an outright liar and he talks in double speak every time his lips move. Sad to see a once decent man go the way of lost souls.
