The leader of a national Latino political organization wasn't happy with the results of the June 25 Thursday's immigration policy meeting at the White House between the president and congressional leaders.
"They have to move from statements and meetings to doing something concrete," Arturo Vargas, director of the National Association of Latino Elected and Appointed Officials told the Spanish-language newspaper La Opinion, which is published in Los Angeles.
Los Angeles County Supervisor Gloria Molina lamented that "we have a lot of Democrats who don't want to support a plan for amnesty, for necessary changes, and who just want to apply the current laws."
Georgia State Representative Pedro Marin told the newspaper that reform legislation expected to emerge later this year needs to be developed patiently in order to avoid a repetition of 2007's failed congressional effort. "This time we have to educate both Democrats and Republicans so they feel comfortable," he said. "And we have to make them understand that reform is necessary because of the economic power that immigrants represent."
Meanwhile, the Spanish-language television network Univision included an optimistic statement by Rep. Lincoln Diaz-Balart, R-FL, who attended Thursday's meeting at the White House. Calling the meeting "very fruitful," Diaz-Balart said Obama hadn't previously understood "that we have made a lot of progress in the House, in informal discussions."
Obama adviser Cecilia Munoz, who pressed persistently for sweeping reform as a top official of the National Council of La Raza, outlined the route ahead. "We have to look for the votes, and we need a (legislative) proposal to look for the votes," she said. Noting that the legislative calendar is jammed for the summer, she added, "We hope that in the fall we'll begin with a legislative process."
How to do they proposed to "make them comfortable" in voting against the interests and opinions of Americans, who overwhelmingly opposed amnesty.

Great question.
BTTT
Don’t forget “Legal” immigration.
America must create 3,000 NEW jobs each day(!) just to employ new citizens and new Green Cards.
Oh...did I mention that 70% of new legal immigrants vote for the Democratic Party?
LA County Supervisor? Demanding an amnesty? Just who is this Gloria Molina?
Let's take a look...
Gloria Molina is a member of the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors, and the current chairwoman of the Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority.[1] Molina grew up as one of ten children in the Los Angeles suburb of Pico Rivera, California, U.S. to a Mexican-American father and Mexican mother.
How can she gro up in a LA suburb with a mexican mother? Mom was an illegal?
Gloria Molina was first elected to office in 1982 as State Assemblywoman for the 56th District. In 1987, she was elected to the Los Angeles City Council where she served as the Councilwoman of the First District until 1991. In February 1991, she was elected to the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors, representing the First Supervisorial District. Ms. Molina is the first Latina in history to be elected to the California State Legislature, the Los Angeles City Council, and the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors.
Not bad, but she went the wrong way...
Prior to being elected to public office, Ms. Molina served in the Carter White House as a Deputy for Presidential Personnel. After leaving the White House, Molina served in San Francisco as a Deputy Director for the Department of Health and Human Services.
Carter White House? She goes waaay back
One of Molina's significant achievements was her involvement with the Mothers of East Los Angeles, a group formed to organize against a proposed plan to build a prison in the barrio of East LA. As city councilwoman, she found government unresponsive to her concerns of yet another proposal to build a prison near schools in the predominantly Chicano and Mexican neighborhood.
Too bad, a prison next to the schools might have shown the inhabitants of the b-a-r-r-i-o what happens when you don't get at least passable grades.
At least the mexicans and their anchors call it what it is, amnesty.

I think granting amnesty would be one of the hot-spots that could kick-off Civil War 2; perhaps the worst option as the country would be divided against itself (allowing or disallowing the amnesty), the governing class, and those who would kill and those who would not kill the illegal immigrants for whom the amnesty would apply.
IOW, if that were the sparking point there could be too many factions with disparate goals in order to do anything but kill a majority of Americans; rather than the bureaucrats and politicians who create and sustain the mess.
Neither 14 million or 12 million is correct. That 12 million has been used since 2003, and implies that no new illegal aliens have entered in the last six years.
Pew Hispanic Trust and Center for Immigration Studies have put out highly flawed analyses that put the number at 11.6 million, but, truth be known, no one knows the exact number.
What is known is that the footprint of illegals has expanded immensely since the 12 million figure came out in 2003. Back then the illegal footprint was mostly in the four border states and a few pockets in the southeast US.
Now they are everywhere - New England, Idaho, the Great Plains states, Colorado, Illinois, Michigan.
If an honest survey were ever to be made, (like offer amnesty and watch them come out of the woodwork) the true numbers would probably be 25-35 million.
And upon amnesty, it will be legal for the new immigrants to bring parents, siblings, grandparents, and children in, which will drive the numbers to 60-100 million.
And don’t forget, Karl Rove started it.
You are missing my point entirely. The point I was trying (without success, apparently) was that if the illegals were deported, our 14 million unemployed would have jobs and would once again be able to afford cars and houses.
No, my point is valid.
By accepting the intentionally low estimate of illegals in the country that is pushed by the pro-amnesty lobby, bad as it is, you mask the true magnitude of the problem.
It is not just a tradeoff of 14 million jobs from Americans to illegals, which is the scope of the impact that you had limited it to, jobs. When the true numbers are known and evaluated (25-35 million) you expose the full scope of the problem - 25 million plus jobs lost, 25 million plus exporters of money, 25 million plus recipients of the welfare state largesse, and 25 million plus votes permanently assigned to the Socialist Democrat Party that will guarntee them power for decades (until the Hispanic majority splits off and forms its own new ruling party.
I study healthcare for a living. I know the magnitude of the enormous problem; I see it and deal with it every day. I was discussing something else entirely.
You can go on arguing, but you will have to do it by yourself; I have plans for the evening. Have a glorious Fourth.
And how are our new ‘immigrants’ celebrating July 4th?

THE FARCE OF JULY Friday July 4th, 2008 Concert
[snip]Since 1997, XRF has independently produced concerts and music albums in Los Angeles, built connections with artists in Mexico, Canada, throughout the US, and Indian country. “The Farce of July” was created in order to use art and music as an instrument of community empowerment, education, and celebration while bringing to light the experience of historically oppressed peoples throughout the world.
Just 3 of the groups performing:
Performers Include:
2Mex
Aztlan Unearthed
Chicano Secret Service
Those are all third or fourth-rate music groups. Not a single star attraction. Buying tickets for that would be a rip off.
The point is the title..FARCE of July. They hate this country and we better figure it out fast.

He says, in part, "My estimate of 38 million illegal aliens residing in the United States is calculated, however, using a conservative annual rate of entry (allowing for deaths and returns to their homelands) of three illegal aliens entering the United States for each one apprehended. My estimate includes apprehensions at the Southern Border (by far, the majority), at the Northern Border, along the Pacific, Atlantic, and Gulf of Mexico coasts, and at seaports and airports. Taking the DHS average of 1.2 million apprehensions per year and multiplying it by 3 comes to 3.6 million illegal entries per year; then multiplying that number by 10 for the 19962005 period, my calculations come to 36 million illegal entries into the United States. Add to this the approximately 2 million visa overstays during the same period, and the total is 38 million illegal aliens currently in the United States."
Of course they hate this country. And I got their point. The reason that they call it a “farce” is that this is a group that objects to Columbus’ discovery of this hemisphere and the presence of white people here. They claim to be for peace and dignity, but they are a bunch of little commandante marcoses, red through and through. They are waiting their chance, when their numbers are great enough, to slit our throats, and have been for several years. Think about it, they can’t get a single decent Mexican band in LA — LA! — to show up for their “event.” That is how far out there they are.
It looks to me they are calling the 4th of July a farce.
Yes, they are. But that is the least of it.
