The United States is opposed to enacting a new set of financial sanctions against Iran that are due to be discussed in the G8 summit next week, diplomatic officials in New York reported Friday.

According to officials, sanctions against Iran are expected to top the G8's agenda. Sources are also predicting a pointed debate between the heads of the industrialized nations over an appropriate response to Iranian authorities' suppression of reformist demonstrations in Iran led by Mir Hossein Mousavi and other Iranian opposition leaders.

However, diplomatic sources in New York reported that American officials are working behind the scenes to prevent new sanctions from being imposed against Iran.

U.S. officials claimed that a tough stance toward Iran could backfire, bringing about an opposite outcome to that desired by those who support such measures.

The enemies within.

If true, this is just another example of Obama’s softness as a leader.

Each new thing they say or do leaves me somewhere between being completely stunned and painfully unsuprised.

Continuing the pattern of sucking-up to barbarians.

Both John McCain and Hillary Clinton would have been very bad as Presidents, but I don’t think either of them have The Messiah’s deep, burning, visceral hatred of Western Civilization.

Most people are resigned to the fact that it’s happened. The next step maybe be very violent.

U.S. officials claimed that a tough stance toward Iran could backfire, bringing about an opposite outcome to that desired by those who support such measures.

We're getting the opposite outcome than desired right now. Why? Because Iran can't be persuaded out of building nuclear weapons. I'll say that again so the administration can take notes.

Iran. Can. Not. Be. Persuaded.

They only thing we can do now is make them suffer for it. If they want to live like North Korea, fine. Far better to have our enemies broke, isolated and impoverished. It limits their ability to make trouble.

What Obama doesn't get, is that trouble is what they care about. Not dialogue. Not money. Not friendship. They want to pursue their goals, and damn the consequences. All we can do is ensure that those consequences are awful enough to cripple them, and to deter others.

It hurts too much to laugh and I am too big to cry.

Watching this train wreck of an Administration is just too much. Each day it gets more unreal.

Exactly. How can you have a dialogue with a group of leaders who believe they must hasten the return of the Mahdi with chaos and destruction? They remind me of a quote from the original Terminator.

It can't be bargained with. It can't be reasoned with. It doesn't feel pity, or remorse, or fear. And it absolutely will not stop, ever, until you are dead.

I now expect Obama to cut off military aid to Isreal and to join Chavez in a military expedition to Honduras.
