Jenny Sanford, Feminist Icon
Pajamas MEdia ^ | July 2 | Jennifer Rubin

Like most Americans, I have heard enough from the adulterers.

John Ensign’s press conference was blissfully short. Mark Sanford’s is interminable. Every day brings a cringe-inducing new update. The bottom line is the same: men who should know better, out of an inflated sense of ego, blow up their careers and their families for transitory pleasures.

We can’t learn much from them. But their spouses and the reaction to their spouses tell us something about where we are and where we are heading in the culture wars.

Jenny Sanford is the new feminist icon. Defiant, brave, principled, and funny. When the New York Times praised her I wondered how long it would be until the media elites had second thoughts. After all — she is, you know, a conservative. And, psst — she’s a also a devout Christian. How can she be an icon with all that politically incorrect baggage?...

Don’t know a thing about her career except what you have told me and that’s not much. I don’t mean to be harsh; but there are lots of things to consider before one just votes for a person.

I also suspect because she is a woman has a lot to do with it. Just because she is a woman doesn’t mean she is a leader.

Some say she's the brains of the outfit having run his campaigns and been his highest ranking adviser.

In affair, Sanford loses closest ally: his wife - The Hill, July 01, 2009

From this article, she sounds a lot more qualified than he is. Brains, poise and composure. My first thought after I read it, was "Lose Mark. Jenny for Governor!"

Feel free to post the article. And if Mark Sanford listens to anybody at all... whoever that is, please tell him to zip his lip, he's done a lot more damage to his own reputation and career (whatever is left of it) and to conservatives by incessantly talking about his private matters than a normal dissolution of the marriage should warrant.

I am still not convinced. If she was the brains, etc; etc and etc; why didn’t they run her instead?

She is also still connected to the Kennedys. We condem Hillary and Michelle (which they should be for other reasons too) for being in their husbands business; so why are we so gloriously qualifying this woman using the same example?

Slow down and take some time to really see if this woman would make a good candidate.

Also look at Mary Bono whatever her last name is now. She really sucks wind especially when she voted for the Cap and Trade.

I am not trying to convince anybody that she should run or that she would make a great governor or any elected official. I only described the short impulse (emotion, not reason) that I had after reading the article. I have no idea if she even gave even a moment’s thought about being in politics herself, let alone in what capacity.

Obviously, to have an impression and wanting to have someone running for office requires much more than reading one article, which is all I know about Jenny Sanford. I didn’t know anything about Mark Sanford before his “run of the mouth” either, except that he was highly touted as a great conservative candidate for President. Now I know too much about him and it comes courtesy of Mark Sanford himself, directly from his actions and his [voluminous] recount.

But on surface, from first impression, it seems that people of SC could do worse than Jenny Sanford, and definitely can do much better than Mark Sanford.

I understand what you are saying and I agree; however, there are problems there. :)

South Carolina has a Lt. Governor who should take over when Sanford is forced out of office.

Here in Arkansas Mike Huckabee was the Lt. Gov when Jim Guy Tucker resigned after being convicted of mail fraud and conspiracy.

My post wasn’t very clear in that Huckabee took OVER as Gov. when Tucker resigned.

That’s the natural order of things.

Not anymore. Not after her new "forgiveness" statement.
