Honduras resists pressure to allow Zelaya's return

TEGUCIGALPA (Reuters) - Rejecting the return of ousted President Manuel Zelaya, Honduras' interim leaders dug in for a fight on Thursday after governments across the region demanded the deposed leftist be restored to power.

In the worst crisis in Central America in a decade, Zelaya was toppled by troops and whisked out of the country on the weekend in a widely condemned coup after he angered opponents with plans to amend the constitution to lift term limits.

The Organization of American States on Wednesday issued a weekend deadline for the interim government to reinstate Zelaya, in a standoff that is testing U.S. President Barack Obama's administration after he promised an era of better relations with the region.

"We have established a democratic government and we will not cede to pressure from anyone. We are a sovereign country," said Roberto Micheletti, who was named as caretaker president by Honduran lawmakers shortly after Zelaya's ouster.

Zelaya, a logging magnate fond of wearing cowboy hats with his suits, has promised to return, but appeared to be waiting for the outcome of the OAS ultimatum. An OAS mission will arrive this week to discuss the ouster, the caretaker government said.

Honduras, an impoverished coffee exporter of around 7 million people, has seen days of protests against Sunday's ouster, but the interim government has rallied supporters onto the streets, underlining divisions over Zelaya's return.

The Honduran Congress approved a decree to crack down on opposition during a nightly curfew imposed after the coup. The decree allows security forces to hold suspects for more than 24 hours without charge and formalizes the prohibition of the right to free association at night.

Just to make it easier for us, here's how to hotlink:

Use this formula:

Like this:

®

À - this is where you put the http:// etc

® - this is where you write whatever you want underlined to display

So for this one - http://lagringasblogicito.blogspot.com/

Yes. Real Americans that understand what is happening support Honduras. I sent out emails to many people explaining what happened and how it was not a coup. It was a constitution in action.

You are moving beyond my meager technological abilities, but I will try. So you just put it in quotes to make it a hotlink (which I think of as something to eat)?

“it ceases to transform”

Me too.

It just seems to turn into a regular gif.

If I save the entire webpage to a directory,
[”File”, “Save As” ...] (create a scratch directory)
the sub directory that gets filled with all the auxiliary files contains the correct .gif.

Who knows why it is such a pain!?

You can help Honduras

A plea from a Honduran friend:

Please everyone I'd like to ask you a big favor. Could you email President Obama or the president of your country and your particular member of congress and tell them how you feel about the situation in Honduras. Right now we need the truth to be told to those who have the power to change things.

I personally already wrote Obama, but who am I for him to listen to? I am not a US citizen. But many of you are! Please help us!

Way to go Honduras...we stand with you, despite the marxist in the White House!

The people of Honduras know that the blow against democracy was being planned and carried out by Zelaya himself as he tried to institute a referendum calling for changing the Honduras constitution. That referendum was illegal and not a due process under the Honduras constitution for changing the constitution.

The Supreme Court of that nation ruled against it (properly so) and the President was planning to use the Executive Branch to implement it anyway. That's when the Supreme Court and a majority of the legislature called for the military's assistance...and they gave it, in support of the Hionduras constitution which Zelaya was attempting to subvert.

And so the telling thing about what happened in Honduras is this: EVERY Marxist in the Western Hemisphere is against it, including the Marxist Obama who is arm-and-arm with his marxist friends, Chavez and Castro on this.

That tells you that what the Honduras military did at the request of its Supreme Court and w/support from its legislature was correct, and avoided a move by Marxists to circumvent the Honduran constitution and entrench marxism in Honduras.

Bravo for the Honduras Supreme Court and military...and down with on Obama's marxist dogma, policies, and ideology!

I saw that. I don't write to 0bama on anything. He won't listen to any contrary views and I don't want my name on any list compiled from people who try to correspond with the WH.

My advice for Hondurans and freedom lovers anywhere in the world is to examine the things 0bama has done and understand that he is an enemy of freedom and the rule of law. Don't make deals with him and don't trust him on anything.

it’s time to bring out Bill CLinton’s old line. Remember how much mileage he got out of that coddling dictators from baghdad to beijing line? Well, Obama is coddling dictators from Tegucigalpa to Teheran.

Unfortunately, very few Americans could probably even find Honduras on the map.
