TOPICS: Business/Economy; News/Current Events; Politics/Elections
KEYWORDS: bush; obama; unemployment
IMPORTANT OBSERVATIONS HERE:

Before Obama's election was inevitable or over, that is to say--except for the last 3 months of Bush's eight years, unemployment's PEAK was 6.3% in June of 2003.

Once it was clear B.O. was going to be elected, and that we were going to have LIBERALS controlling, unfettered, the legislative and executive branches, business owners realized higher taxes and more regulations were on the way.

HERE'S WHAT HAPPENED:

When employers realized they were in for higher taxes and more regulations, they began to lay off employees. Sure, the "crisis" was inflated by Paulson's panic--but that only meant MORE GOVERNMENT INTERVENTION...and that means bad news for private free enterprise.

Make no mistake: even with the climb to 7.6 under Bush, it was because of Obama's impending seizure of power that unemployment soared.

And under BO, it has continued to rise...even though he said it would not.

Obama is, like most leaders in his party, a liar.

Do you really think it would have been better under McInsane?

Obama's "plan" is not going to save the U.S. He's hell bent on destroying America.

Other than some temporary tax cuts what did Bush do to keep unemployment low? His deficits were records till Obama took over.

Sort of: The CRISIS was artificially created BY Pelosi’s oil-restrictions in mid-year 2007 to CREATE the recession to CREATE the need to elect Obama - or any other democrat - in November 2008.

Without Pelosi’s deliberate and artificial oil crisis between Nov 2007 and July 2008, there would be NO insurance crisis, fuel crisis, mortgage crisis, banking crisis, ... and no socialist in the White House.

And the world knew it: as soon as Obama gained the lead over McCain with the Sept 2008 bailout, she dropped the oil restrictions, and oil prices dropped back DOWN on October 1, 2008 to there previous levels.

Colonel Obama and the Congressional liberals think they can do a ‘Chavez-Zelaya’ trick on America because Colonel Obama believes the average American is no smarter than that dope hanging on the door of hut sweet hut in Kenya.

Our challnege is to prove him wrong.

The economic collapse was inevitable: although the stage was set on Clinton's watch, I think Bush contributed to it in a few SMALL ways.

That being said, the rest of your premise is dead on: people with brains knew what Obama and a Democrat controlled Congress were going to do. In fact, I don't think anyone really believed the Democrats would end up as bad as they are.

Their ineptness has, without any doubt at all, made the economic situation far, far worse than if they had done nothing at all. At this point, they ARE the problem.

The minimum wage raise was a hit on employment....Kids at home with their parents and part timers aren’t looking for a living wage....”unskilled labor”

His deficits were records till Obama took over.

Bush's deficits, IIRC, were NOT records in terms of the national economy. He was growing deficits in pure numbers, yes--and too much so.

The caveat is this: Bush was, though growing deficits with a tin-eared Congress, doing so in a GROWING ECONOMY.

I don't have the exact numbers, but the deficits were small as a percentage of the GDP...Reagan-like, I think.

OBAMA IS GROWING DEFICITS...EXPLODING THEM...IN A SHRINKING ECONOMY.

The effects are much much much worse.

I agree....The oil crisis was the big ticket....All that money "tanked" any "real purchases"......

Don't forget corn for fuel, too.....Another dumb political brainstorm...

That minimum wages hike didn’t help, but it wasn’t the cause of the problem.

So, look at who demanded the minimum wage hike, who propagandized for it, who forced it through the house and senate when the economy tanked BECAUSE of Pelosi’s oil and energy “crisis” ?

And under BO, it has continued to rise...even though he said it would not.

The most meaningless phrase in the American lexicon, "obama says". It is being proven on an almost daily basis that anything that follows that phrase is worthless as a statement of fact.

I think McCain would have been a very bad president, I think Obama is bad times ten to the fifth power. We are in a hole dug by granting far too much power to the government and it may be too deep to climb out already, the current plan is to try to dig through to the other side of the Earth.

Look at the chart and track the following from the 2007 Democrat Congress:

The Federal Minimum Wage increase took effect on July 24, 2007.

the 2007 CAFE Standards changes.

Lamp (lightbulb) Efficiency Standards. 35,000+ American, mostly Jobs lost to China and Mexico because of just ONE LAW! Who knew so many people made lightbulbs?

The “No Energy” Energy Legislation.

SCHIP and it’s associated taxes.

Wall Street Legislation that STRANGLED attempts to take new companies public, and literally shut down IPO’s in America!

I disagree. What was growing was debt. All around. Most of the increase in GDP was financial shenanigans. Which lead us to where we are now. There had been fiscal irresponsibility since the late '90s.

As far as I am concerned there was no real economic growth under Bush - they just learned to juggle the numbers real well.

No no no.

The question is, what did Bush NOT do to drive unemployment higher?

And that list is incomplete.
