Gov: State's deficit has grown to $26.3 billion

Matthew Yi, Richard Procter,Wyatt Buchanan, Chronicle Sacramento Bureau

Wednesday, July 1, 2009

Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger said today that the state's deficit has grown by $2 billion - to $26.3 billion due to the Legislature's failure to pass a comprehensive solution to solve the state's shortfall.

The Republican governor also declared a fiscal emergency, citing the Legislature's inability to pass a plan by last night's midnight deadline.

The fiscal emergency means that under Proposition 58, lawmakers will have 45 days to adopt a plan to close the deficit. If they fail to meet that deadline, they will be barred from taking up any other legislation that is not budget related.

In addition, the governor signed an executive order forcing 220,000 state workers to take a third furlough day without pay beginning this month.

As California is going, driven onto the rocks by the liberal madmen in charge, so goes the nation.

Finally - some good news!

Kalifornicate should be FORCED into bankruptcy..
ALL contracts renegotiated - INCLUDING union contracts..
Unions for civil servants should be outlawed - and non-union replacements hired for EVERY position....

Salaries, Benefits, Pensions, Perks, etc, etc.... ALL renegotiated to come into line with the same or similar jobs in PRIVATE INDUSTRY...

Our Civil Servants are NOT entitled to better salary or benefits than their employers - the taxpayers.

Oh nooooooo....! Great Caesar's ghost! These people will have to claim overtime on their time sheets to make up the difference! What a pain!

The entire nation is destined to end up in the same financial condition. California is leading the way, and when it collapses utterly, the rest of the country will be sucked in the black hole of financial irresponsibility that California’s collapse creates.

Look, anyone with half a clue knows that about 70 percent of government is useless and a drag on the economy.
Fire ALL nonessential govt. workers and let them start gardens of beg on freeway on ramps.

I am sure I have missed it somewhere, but does anyone have a link to a financial breakdown of California’s spending? What do they spend so much money on? Government employees and welfare cant be all that, can it?
If California cut so much, and are still $26 billion in the hole, what the H*LL, let them go bankrupt and rot.
