Mitch Daniels in 2012? (Vanity discussion thread)
Me | 07/01/09 | Me

Posted on 07/01/2009 7:34:46 PM PDT by GOPGuide

There is a gigantic amount of hostility to Romney on this forum. Personally I'd vote for Romney if he were the nominee, but I'm not really enthusiastic because of his flip flopping. He strikes me as a smarter version of GHWB.

My question to you guys is if Romney is a no go for you then how about Mitch Daniels of Indiana?

With Sanford's self destruction act I cannot imagine who else could possibly stop Romney's war machine.

Ensign is also disgraced and John Thune is probably eyeing the VEEP position rather than being the nominee. Haley Barbour is a former lobbyist who governs the poorest state in the Union. I like Palin but she seems too much of a lightning rod and I don't see any evidence she is more conservative than Daniels. And we have no idea what General Petraeus believes.

So who is left?

The only plausible alternative to Romney I can see is Daniels.

Isn’t the state of Indiana in the red, while Alaska is at least breaking even?

I get it, you’re afraid to stand up for a candidate like Palin, because the media will not play nice. Don’t give up just yet, that’s what the libs want.

I like Daniels. The guy even has a since of humor, which is necessary since he is bald. (Don’t ask!)

“I get it, you’re afraid to stand up for a candidate like Palin,”

Is Palin more conservative than Daniels?

If there is no difference in ideology between Daniels and Palin then it may make more sense to go with Daniels who doesn’t have as high negatives.

None of the guys you mention can draw a crowd of 2,000.

Sarah Palin can draw 20,000 with an overnight notice.

Sarah would do for us what Margaret Thatcher did for England.

Palin’s high negatives are entirely the fault of Big Media. They ruin most Conservatives by gossip, innuendo and outright lies.

“Palin is far more conservative than Daniels.”

On what issues?

I like Palin fine, but I don’t see where she differs with Daniels on any major issue. The both seem pretty good on Gorebull Warming and fiscal policy.

The question would be: How good a campaigner is the guy? By 2012 we may want a guy who acts like a genial bookkeeper; then again, we may not.

There’s also Tim Pawently of MN.

I am willing to look at Pawently, Barbour, and Daniels.

Daniels is said to be an extremely disciplined campaigner.

Daniels will have to go to IA and convince the conservatives on the ground to consolidate around him as the alternative to Mitt. If he can’t he’s out of the race within 3 days.

Get to work, Mitch.

Plus Sarah was not running her own campaign. McCain’s people were running that. Without McCain around I want to see what she really has to say.

Any of them got 76% support from the base? No? Well guess who does.

The only plausible alternative to Romney I can see is Daniels.

Jim DeMint
Mike Pence
Bobby Jindal
James Inhofe
Matt Graves

Not saying that I don't like Daniels, or like any of these others better than him, just floating them as potential candidate material since Sanford and Ensign have both imploded. I still don't count either Thune or Palin out, either.

I don’t know much about Daniels. What I have heard is mixed, tending towards negative. Did he take the porkulus money with open arms? Or did he try to fight it?

It’s personality. Plus, Palin was the best stump speaker in the field last fall. She probably could have handled Obama in one of those debates, especially the town hall formats. She could make a member of the audience feel like she had her arms around him/her when she talked to them. She feeds ON the audience, where as Obama lectures them, more or less like Joel Osteen et al. He is as cold as a fish.
