... but the way he did so may raise some eyebrows.
Rep. Bob Inglis, an upstate South Carolina Republican, put it this way to the Spartanburg Herald-Journal's Jason Spencer:
On Sanford's ability to govern while dealing with a personal crisis:
I dont think thats a problem. We are all coping in our private lives with personal issues. That would be like saying Sarah Palin shouldnt be governor of Alaska because she has a special needs child. Gov. Palin is coping with a special needs child. Thats a lot to put on somebody. Thats a lot to put on a marriage. And yet shes effectively serving as governor of Alaska.
Men in SC melting down...replace them with their wives...
One more VOTE for Palin. They just don’t live that ‘chick’ alone. They energize me when they pick on her....Come On SARA...let’s do the RACE with Obama...starting NOW.
Taking care of a special needs child is a challenge yes, but there is more to a ‘challenge’ such as infidelity than the stress it puts on a marriage. There’s that whole, lying to your family, breaking a vow, being a stupid a$$ only listing to the little head thing that prompts some people to think Sanford should resign.
Cheating on your wife = deciding not to kill your unborn child because of special needs????
Unbelievable!
You have GOT to be kidding me ... this idiot is going to compare lying to staff and security detail, abandoning his post and leaving the country without anyone knowing where the he** he was, NOT A PRIVATE MATTER AT ALL, to having a special needs child, family surrounding to help care for him?
Adding Inglis to the stupid-scum list.
They grow some real dumb-a$$es in South Carolina.
So, do they store them ALL at the state capital so they’re easier to keep an eye on, or what?
OMG- now they are comparing Todd and Sarah’s decision to bear Trig Palin, and the results (a happy little boy being raised in a large extended loving family and Sarah’s continued success in governing a fiscally sound state despite the pressures of endless media and political assaults on hersel, her children, and 15 groundless ethics compiants)
to the decision made by lying adulterer ... and the results
(political chaos, corruption investigation, betrayal, shame and humiliaton of a wife and 4 children)
I hate this era. Hate it. People lie like there’s no tomorrow, confuse and cloud others’ perception for political points. Sanford betrays his wife and thats comparable to Palin having a down-syndrome child to take care of? What is this bastard thinking?!
Sometime last year I think I inadvertently slipped across some cosmic plane into an alternate universe. You literally cannot make this stuff up.
“You have GOT to be kidding me ... this idiot is going to compare lying to staff and security detail, abandoning his post and leaving the country without anyone knowing where the he** he was, NOT A PRIVATE MATTER AT ALL, to having a special needs child, family surrounding to help care for him?”
You failed to include the taxpayers, whom payed for Gov. Sanford’s trips to indulge in his sexual liaisons, and conducted himself in behavior unbecoming of a political official with other women, and betraying the trust of his family as well as his constituents.
Furthermore, the governor said that his press conference was the consequence for his actions. The press conference? Did the governor lose a few nuts and bolts on that flight to Argentina?
No, governor; the press conference was a press conference. The good folks of your state wanted to know why their governor had gone AWOL, and the general public wanted you to field a few pressing questions regarding your behavior. After all, you are the most powerful public official of South Carolina.
We now discover that Gov. Sanford wants the best of both worlds, or is it three? He wants to remain the governor, fall in love with his wife again(grown), AND he is connected with his “soul mate”.
Get off the ride, Mr. Sanford. You can’t handle the G force.
Well, I can see the parallels...except for the fact that Palin has never left her spouse in the dark of night to fly to another country and cheat on her spouse, then blubber for days with an apology not worthy of an eighth grader...I mean apart from those things, they’re virtually the same person!
Sanford is dealing with a special needs child. It happens to be himself, but its a full time job.
He needs to go somewhere and focus on it. Leave politics to the grownups.
Yesterday or the day before I wrote that although his political career was finished I saw no reason he shouldn’t stay through the end of his term and then retire from public life. I’m starting to rethink that. I just want him to go. Sooner is better.
Bull$h|t! Sanford is in trouble, because he has demonstrated a major lack of integrity. Giving birth to a special needs child isn't remotely comparable.
Oh yeah, they have a similar challenge: trying to run their state while spending a lot of time thousands of miles away from South Carolina.
We are talking here about a “conservative” that voted against the surge, for the bail out, believes in global warming and thinks the GOP should lose the “stinking rot of self-righteousness”.
Two words...Lindsey Graham
“Governor Palin’s special needs child doesn’t run off to Argentina dragging her behind, unlike Sanford’s “special needs organ”.
OMG! You owe me a keyboard, lol!
