PHOENIX - The Arizona Senate has given final approval to a bill that would allow people with concealed weapons permits to carry a gun into a business that serves alcohol.
The 19-8 vote completes legislative action on the bill and sends it to Republican Gov. Jan Brewer. She has not said whether she will sign it, but she has long been a supporter of gun rights.
The measure has pitted powerful groups representing gun and bar owners against each other, sparking a debate about whether guns and alcohol can coexist without bloodshed.

Seeing as how there are plenty of states where alcohol and guns coexist peacefully, why would one assume that this state would be any different?
I’ll be watching for and increase in people shooting each other in bars, though I doubt we’ll see one.
The press harps on the “bars”, but there are a lot of restaurants which serve alcohol.
I can’t imagine Brewer signing this.
TN just passed the same law recently. It took an override of Governor Bredesen’s veto to do it.
Good. Any set of places where a gunman can expect that the populace will be largely unarmed (bars, banks, schools, malls) is deadly.
Yay for second amendment, yet hell for my job.
You are in violation of your permit if you are drinking. Why should where you are have anything to do with it? On the lighter side, maybe I can sell some “Designated Shooter” pin badges. Could make for an interesting night at the bar if they have a special on shooters too.
Hey, if NEW YORK allows it without negative consequences, what excuse does any other state have?
I’m all for gun rights and everything, but I really don’t think allowing people to get trashed whilst armed is the greatest idea in the world...
Why? assuming you’re a bartender, is there a notable history anywhere of the law-abiding being a problem in this way?
What of those who do not get trashed? A great percentage imbibe socially, never approaching “trashed”. I’m medically limited to one serving per day; why should I be denied self-defense for want of a single shot of Knob Creek?
The first I've heard of that. Is that a TX rule, or universal? Does it apply if I'm sitting in my living room?
If you are carrying concealed, drinking is forbidden. The State Run Media is portraying this as if armed people would be able to drink. Not so!
Exactly. Being from New York (until last week fortunately), I’ve never seen an incident involving guns and alcohol - and I’m in a rural area, where we cling to our guns, too.
You don’t need a CCL to sit in your living room with a gun, Castle Law. In TX being under the influence and carrying in public is a violation. If you aren’t carrying you are free to drink. But don’t go leaving the gun in your car trunk and having a designated driver drive you home. If you got stopped you could be in violation. Rule of thumb is if a police officer asks you for ID show him your CCL along with your drivers license. He’s going to run it in a computer and will then be asking you if you are carrying anyway. Here’s a hypthetical that I don’t have the answer to and I guess it would depend on the jury. You are at home drinking, a burgler is in your garage so you grab your trusty Glock and confront him. He winds up DRT. The cops show. Does having a 1.4 or whatever BAC become a factor in deciding how to charge you? Freepers jump right in!
I'm not saying it's a smart idea, but in what state does this apply to? It's certainly not as universal and clear-cut as you make it seem.
Arizona, the state in the article. This law doesn’t change that.
