The still-mysterious circumstances of Michael Jacksons death, with its attendant implications of celebrity-besotted, sycophantic enablers turning a collective blind eye to prescription drug abuse and other self-destructive behavior, put me in mind of an incident in my police career from some years ago.
I briefly worked on Los Angeles prosperous Westside, and I was called to a home just a stones throw from the one now so familiar to anyone whos been near a television set in the past week. A home every bit as large and lavishly appointed as the one Jackson was renting at the time of his death in that neighborhood there are few homes that arent.
The resident and subject of the radio call was a man of some appreciable celebrity. Not rivaling that of Michael Jackson, certainly, but he was nonetheless very well known. He was also and remains today considered by most to be quite eccentric, that is when compared with nearly anyone other than Michael Jackson....

Certified “No man” sounds like my kind of job.
Why did the phrase “celebrity-besotted, sycophantic enablers” remind me of another prominent person?
As a mother of five...three of whom have safely exited their teen years...I feel uniquely qualified to be a ‘NO WOMAN.’
Ruining ‘fun’ is what I do best. FReepmail me for my resume (as I am soon to be unemployed by the stimulated Obama Economy).
We should go into business together. “Fun Nazis R us”. I don’t drink or use drugs and have no problem telling others they shouldn’t.
The similarities to his case and Anna Nicole Smith are sad.
But celebs like MJ just shop doctors, lawyers and support staff until they get someone who will tell them what they want to hear and prescribe what they want to take.
No men — even family members — don’t last long
“...Ruining fun is what I do best.”
Another kindred spirit. I was accused by my 23 yr. old daughther of sh$$$ing over her parade and ruining her life.
My 18 year old son thinks I am the Meanest Person in the World.
However . . . he is in the process of finding out that there are plenty of people a lot meaner than I am (he's on Week 5 at Parris Island, poor schmoo).
It said at the end — No matter how rich or famous one may become, no matter how large ones retinue may grow, it may be wise to seek out and retain at least one person whose sole duty is to now and then stand up and say no.

The problem is that the celebrity (and even ordinary people in ordinary positions in life) can get rid of “no men” very easily. It simply does not work...
It depends upon the person themselves to be smart enough. If they are not, then they’re going to kill themselves, eventually.
When I was young, I thought my dad was the world’s biggest killjoy. Now that I’ve safely survived adolescence and made it into middle age, I realize he was right.
Of course, I still hate admitting that the old man was right. :)
I’m still wondering if LaToya will appear at the funeral. She was the drag version of Michael.
With drug addicts that can control their life through money or power, ‘No men’ are easily dismissed, dispensed with, and shown the door. Michael sadly carved out his own fate. We are the ones who have lost. He was such an amazing talent. Glad we got from him what we did.
Let’s see: Howard Hughes, Elvis Presley, Jim Morrison, Cass Eliot, Janis Joplin, 9 or 10 Rolling Stones,John Belushi, Marilyn Monroe... and a cast of thousands, I’m sure
At my FIL’s funeral, my husband (the eldest son) stood up and said (among other things) that he couldn’t believe how much smarter his dad got between the time hubby was 18 and when he turned 30 . . . .
A NO man would have NO job in about 10 minutes around MJ.
LOL a drag Michael Jackson!
vinum vidi hiccup
CC...don’t know about you...but I am PROUD, PROUD I tell ya of my ‘buzz kill’ abilities!!!
Party?!?!?! Schmarty...don’t you have fifteen pages of dialog to rehearse??? Is your party gonna pay that Mercedes’ lease? Yeah...and I still like your brother better!!!
I can break anyone.
LaToya get his guyliner in the Will.
LOL! Here's the Reader's Digest version I've had with my two oldest kids, when they complained my wife and I weren't providing the proper "support":
"In your first semester of your freshman year, your mother and I have already paid more than your grandparents did for my bachelor's and master's degress, and your mother's bachelor's degree. In fact, your mother and I covered all of our college expenses through scholarships, GI bill, and working. We are paying for your living expenses, transportation, car insurance, medical, cell phones, etc. What more do you expect us to do for you?"
...crickets...chirping...
Michael Jackson’s story about his addictions and those around him enabling him is quite analogous to what our country is going through IMO. I think America needs an intervention and the enablers in and outside of DC need to shut up and sit down. However, many of them are drunk on their own power - the American people & Common Sense need to have an intervention with everyone else!
