Sandinista Arkancide??
Arguello was one of the best fighters I’ve ever seen. Classic style — no nonsense.
I didn’t know he went that route until a few months back. Pryor, I think, became a deacon and motivational speaker (I could be wrong).
The greatest fight ever. Those guys absolutely wailed on each other for 14 rounds.
yup....just like Abu Nidal (2003;Iraq)

I was convinced that Aaron Pryor was ‘on something’ when he gave that beating to Arguello. Arguello was such a slick fighter, and he hit Pryor with many shots that should have knocked the brawler out. But eventually Arguello got exhausted & Pryor KO’ed him. It was a shame. I think that was pretty much it for one of the best Lightweights I ever saw.
One of the most impressive knockouts I ever saw was Arguello v. Kevin Rooney. It looked like Rooney would never recover.
One of the best fights I've ever seen.
Great boxer. Condolences to Alexis Arguello’s family and frineds.
Alexis Arguello is a hero outside the boxing ring. At a time of communist momentum in Central America he made anti-Sandinista and pro-Contra broadcasts. Naturally being sports celebrity number ONE in Nicaragua helped make his talks effective.
He was a man’s man.
ESPN recently aired the fight from about a year later, took place in Las Vegas as I recall. Another good one.
I’ve always thought that about Pryor as well and agree with your take on the fight. Arguello was one of the all time greats and I’m sorry to hear of his death.
“Being a Sandinista, good riddance!”
You are referring to yourself I take it. Arguello was anti-Sandinista.
“Even a fool, when he holdeth his peace, is counted wise: and he that shutteth his lips is esteemed a man of understanding.”
Proverbs 17:28.
You might want to do some research before you post.
At the link, it says he was a member of the ruling party. Maybe there are factions, and he's not tight with Commandante Sunglasses. I don't know.
I guess I’ve stayed in the 16th Century too long.
According to “Wicked Pedia”, he ran under that party’s label even though the “Sandinista National Liberation Front (FSLN)—the same party against whom he took up arms in the 1980s”.
Okay I’m way behind the times.
My apologies.
Better question Boom Boom Mancini.
