Overheating iPhone 3GS handsets worry users

The problem appears to particularly affect the white handsets of Apple's new turbo-charged device, which is twice as fast as its predecessor, the iPhone 3G, and boasts an improved camera and the ability to record video.

Dozens of users have reported overheating issues, with some iPhone owners unable to pick up the device because the handset gets so hot. Owners of the white iPhone 3GS say the casing turns pink with the heat. Some users have said the device has been too hot to put to their ear while making a phone call. The overheating seems to occur when owners are using the iPhone's mapping software, which uses the handset's built-in GPS technology to pinpoint their location and provide directions.

On Apple's support forums, iPhone owners have been complaining about the problems. "My iPhone 3GS back get somewhat warm when playing a few mins of games. Is this normal?," asks one user, Dreamcast DC. "I am having the same issue," reports Ron Lift

"...the payoff to the people who moved him ahead of others on the donor list..."

Just had to prove your MSSheeple creds by adding ad hominem slander to a technical article...

BTW, you better have proof of that, or you are legally exposed.

"And I say that as an old school Apple Fan since I bought my Apple II+ back in the early 80's."

Yep -- I'm still PO'd at Apple for discontinuing the // line...

I own the entire "Inside Macintosh" suite, and I have ported some of my own spatial analysis software over to the Mac, but the most enjoyable and accessible (for programming) machine I have ever had was a souped-up Apple //GS -- with 1/2,500 the raw speed of this MBP...

LOL! Don’t forget the wink and a nod when Steve Jobs got his backdated stock options. Oh, I know, he didn’t sell any or make a profit from them, but that was only because he was caught!

BS, Incorrigible. Steve Jobs was not "caught." He turned in his stock options in 2002, before the passage of Sarbanes Oxley and before the whole backdating flap was created by that act and the changes in the GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Practices).

You said — I beta tested the 3.0 OS, but have decided NOT to buy a 3Gs. I am almost certain the 4G phone will be out within a year, and I am happy with my currect 3G iPhone.

And the year after, the 5G phone will be out, and then the 6G phone, the 7G phone, the 8G phone...

Well, you get the idea... LOL..

You said — Apple labels their boxes “Designed in California” but everything is built by slave labor in Red China. A bit disingenuous, if you ask me.

Ummm.., the last time I shopped in the store, it appeared to me that *everything in the world* is made in China... LOL...

You said — Its killing me, I still have the 1st generation iPhone (which I dearly love.) I wouldn’t get enough from one of the kids bikes though, would probably have to sell one of the kids...

Hey, there’s nothing wrong with that first iPhone. I’ve got it and it’s wonderful. I also do the “technology leapfrog”. I usually jump over several revisions and then get the latest. It does save quite a bit of money that way.

And..., Apple products do have a very long life, too — which enables you to do that.

Telecom companies don't deploy new technologies that rapidly - or that frequently.

Your (misplaced) point was...?

Well, my “misplaced point” (LOL...) was... that next year, it’s always going to be something better, newer, different, more features, more power, more everything... and it never stops... :-)

AND..., if you keep with *that mentality* then you’ll *never buy* anything.

If I keep repeating it sooner or later it will be investagated.

Who Gets a Liver?
The average waiting time for a liver is 796 days. (UNOS/OPTN Annual Report 2003) Candidates who need a liver transplant are given a MELD/PELD score (Model for End-Stage Liver Disease/Pediatric End-Stage Liver Disease) that indicates how urgently they need the organ. A liver will be offered to the candidate with a matching tissue type and the highest MELD/PELD score first (the high score indicates the greatest need.) If the first donor’s surgeon does not accept the organ then the liver specialists at UNOS will offer the liver to matched patients according to the MELD/PELD scores until the organ is accepted. Geographic factors are also taken into consideration, but livers can stay healthy outside the body for 12 to 24 hours so the UNOS liver team has greater flexibility than the teams that work with hearts and lungs ( Partnering With Your Transplant Team (PDF) , page 10). See the OPTN/UNOS Allocation of Livers Policy (PDF) for details. To learn more about how MELD/PELD scores are assigned, see the OPTN MELD/PELD calculators

Hate to tell you this, but I have -- and use -- both PC (Dell) and Mac. Back in the late 70's , when I started in the personal computer world, there was no Microsoft PC choice -- even on the distant horizon...

You too have noticed the cult like behavior of the Apple clan here on FR and elsewhere. I thought it was just me.
