On Monday, the Waxman-Markey climate bill moved to the Senate floor after narrowly passing the House. It's a step, yesbut as everyone knows, cooling the planet will require a lot more than closing an emissions deal. That's why earlier this month the august National Academy of Sciences (NAS) brought together in Washington, DC, leading scientists, economists, policy experts, philosophers, and a menagerie of other experts for a two-day workshop to discuss a crazy-sounding idea: Should the US consider geoengineering the planet's atmosphere to combat global warming?

The high priests of the Green Cult sell indulgences called “Carbon Credits” which are good against future ecological sins. Ultimately, who bears the cost? You, me, the poor, the middle class.

Yesterday I read some editorials about the Cap and Tax program. It said that the countries that have signed on to the Kyoto treaty have found that the compliance is a lot more expensive than previously predicted. It also pointed out that most of the countries that signed on to Kyoto have pollution rates that are rising faster than the US.
It also pointed out that China and India, who both have many times the population of the US, are not willing to do anything about their CO2 emisions. That means that the US is only contributing a small amount of the .004% of the man-made CO2 to the atmosphere and the countries that are contributing the most aren't going to change.
The US Economy is going to suffer. We're going to lose jobs, pay more taxes, and pay more for everything and it's going to make the carbon credit brokers like Al Gore rich.

The same loons who decry America’s “Hubris”, “Arrogance, and “Imperialism”, in FP are now clamoring for the United States to act unilaterally to permanently alter the Earths climate and environment even without knowing the repercussions?
Is Irony and Hypocrisy lost on these people?

Should the US consider geoengineering the planet's atmosphere to combat global warming? Why does this so remind me of the Loony Left in the 1970s whose idea was to cover arctic snow with OIL so as to absorb heat and stave off global cooling?
Idiots all.

The principle of “You Broke It, You Bought It” applies.
If the US Government starts geoengineering, we will be blamed for every typhoon, every drought, and every rained-out picnic until the end of time.

Despite ongoing efforts to curb emissions levels and slow the planet's warming, the warning signs are clearer than ever. Natural disasters abound. Entire regions may be rendered inhabitable. Mass extinction looms on the horizon. So slash your wrists already and spare the rest of us your whining.
To: PROCON
I for one feel that this planet is a self correcting system. If there is too much of a gas like carbon dioxide, more plant life will bloom to absorb it. Too many rabbits will result in an increase of predators. Balance is restored.
Man AND HIS ACTIVITIES are an organic part of this earth. What we do will be balanced out by the ecosystem, except for one thing: When we deliberately try to 'fix' the environment.
When we introduce a new species of plant or animal into an ecosystem, for example to solve a problem, the law of unintended consequences will appear and more problems will be created than solved.
Anything we do to 'prevent global warming' falls into this category.
