CT 2010: Schiff polling shows him competitive with Dodd
The Hill, Washington, DC ^ | 2009-06-30 | Aaron Blake & Reid Wilson

Economist Peter Schiff is looking closely at joining the GOP primary to face Sen. Chris Dodd (D-Conn.), and his polling shows he would be competitive in the general election.

The polling, which was conducted by Wilson Research Strategies and obtained by The Backroom, shows Dodd leading the little-known Schiff within the margin of error, 42-38.

I would like NOTHING more than to get rid of the POS Dodd. But I very pessimistic about the state of Connecticut. Connecticut seems to have some of the dumbest voters on the entire East Coast (and maybe even the US). I don't know why. It seems to be a product of the liberal northeast culture. It's baffles me why people vote for an AH like Dodd but I'm from California and we have elected Barbara Boxer 3 times. So calling the voters of Connecticut dumb is the pot calling the kettle black. But we in CA have a lot of minorities and third world types who instinctively hit the D button when they enter the Voting Booth. I don't know what causes this idiocy in Connecticut.

Excellent news. Schiff is seperated by Dodd by four points, so within the margin of error he could be tied. Schiff would be a very competitive Senate candidate if he ran. Of course this flies in the face of the "only RINOs can win!!!" talking point of the RNC and some freepers. Once again, we see no evidence that running as Dem-lite magically makes one more "electable"

Now we have concrete proof that Dodd is in indeed "vulnerable" to a conservative challenge, and that we don't "need" RINO Rob Simmons as our nominee.

I hope for Schiff's sake he takes the hint and gets in the race while the iron is still hot.

Our voters here in MA are dumber than yours. We have Ted Kennedy, Bwarney, Ed Markey, and John Kerry, just to name a few!

I would think the Independents would view Schiff favorably. I think we should support Libertarians in the Northeast and the Pacific West instead of the usual RINO’s. The Conservatives will sweep the South and Midwest for 2010. Even though I disagree with Libertarians on certain key issues, we can all agree on smaller government. Once elected, we can then fight each other on the moral issues. I think that should be our blueprint for victory.

Or, we could just leave the moral issues to the various States and to the People, as the Founders intended.

“Or, we could just leave the moral issues to the various States and to the People, as the Founders intended.”

Are you implying that I am demanding a federal government mandate on morality? That’s a cute straw man you are fighting with. My point was that it is smarter to put Libertarian candidates in states that the GOP thinks only RINO’s would win, because on the federal level what really matters is the belief of smaller government.

Be ready for lots of yelling and crying that we need a “moderate” Republican Senate nominee because a conservative “can’t win” in Connecticut.

And have the barf bag ready, too.

” Connecticut seems to have some of the dumbest voters on the entire East Coast (and maybe even the US). “

As a Massachusetts resident, I take umbrage. We are unrivaled. Ted Kennedy, John Kerry, Barney Frank, Gerry Studds, Ed Markey... go ahead, bring it.

Pikers.

Sending Dodd packing would be an excellent start to taking back the Senate.

Rell should win in a landslide for the governorship, so Schiff might get an extra boost from the coattail factor.

Schiff is probably the perfect candidate to take on Dodd as well. Someone who predicted the financial crisis vs. someone who aided and abetted it.

Now this is very promising! Question is - will the clueless Democrat-lite GOP back him in CT?

I doubt if Schiff will get many of the more well-known Republicans to help him, even if he wins the Primary, will he? Rep. Ron Paul may give him the thumbs-up, but that would turn off many of the big-government “conservatives” here on FR who reside in The Constitution State.

Peter Schiff would be a great voice in the senate. Unfortunately, if Schiff is the nominee, the race will quickly become about Peter’s dad (Irwin). Peter will be portrayed as a tax protester and Irwin will be hung around his neck at every opportunity.
