Personally, I never express curiosity as to how a dog became rabid. I simply deal with the situation at hand.

I tend to deal with rabid dogs much the same way, though when they're ostensibly from your own pack, it does sometimes cause you to cock your head to one side and raise an eyebrow.

And then you realize:

It isn't one of your pack.

You can see a zipper along its back.

It's a weasel in a dog suit.

Or possibly a bunch of eels taped together in the shape of a weasel inside a dog suit.
