HB 2439, the AzCDL-requested CCW training reform bill that now includes "Petty Offense" and "Defensive Display" language, is scheduled for a Senate Third Read vote this afternoon (6/30/09). We expect it to pass. From there it will be sent to the House for concurrence votes and a Final Read vote before it can be sent to the Governor. All this must occur before the Legislature shuts down the 2009 session which we are told will be TONIGHT.
Rather than wait for the passage of HB 2439 in the Senate, we need to put immediate pressure on House members to support HB 2439 today!
We urge everyone to contact every House member and politely urge them to support the current version of HB 2439. A brief personal letter is always best. Below is a cut-and-paste template you may use as an example. Following the template are email address lists of the Representatives in both semi-colon and comma separated formats.

Dear Representative,
The Arizona Citizens Defense League has informed me that HB 2439 will be scheduled for a final House floor vote today. I urge you to vote for the passage of HB 2439. The current version of HB 2439 contains language that is very important to me: - It supports law enforcement by providing harsher penalties for criminals carrying concealed without a permit. - It encourages concealed weapons (CCW) permit applications by giving credit for prior training. - It provides greater protection for citizens attempting to comply with weapons statues clouded by court decisions. - It codifies when the defensive display of a weapon is justified.
Again, I urge you to vote for the passage of HB 2439.

Does this really mean criminals or does it mean that carrying w/o the permit makes you (more of) a criminal?
Where can one find a copy of this bill? I’d love to forward it to my state Rep, see if we can get a similar bill here in FL.
It reduces the penalties for simply carrying concealed to a petty offense, similar to a traffic ticket.
ah, that is an improvement then.
