June 30, 2009 BREAKING: Minnesota's highest court rules for Al Franken Posted: 02:25 PM ET (CNN) — Minnesota's Supreme Court has dismissed former Sen. Norm Coleman's challenge to the state's November election results and declared Democratic challenger Al Franken the winner.

The unanimous opinion ruled that Franken "received the highest number of votes legally cast" and is entitled "to receive the certificate of election as United States senator from the state of Minnesota."

The former "Saturday Night Live" writer and performer had declared victory in the disputed race after a recount ended in January, but Coleman — a Republican who had been seeking a second six-year term — went to court to challenge those results.

Coleman still could attempt to take the challenge to federal courts, but Minnesota Gov. Tim Pawlenty, a Republican, told CNN on Sunday that he would sign Franken's election certificate if the Supreme Court ordered it.

Yeah. The re-count in Iran gave the loser even more votes than on the first go round, too.

Congrats, Minnesota, you’ve just joined Iran in the “how to run a fair election” category.

Thank goodness GWB had a stellar legal team (and 5 fair justices on SCOTUS) or this would have been the result in Bush v. Gore.

it is a sad day that a pathetic individual like franken is going to the US Senate..as an aside..minnesota should really look into changing their election laws..you realize that al franken and jesse ventura have been elected to statewide office in the last ten years..and combined they failed to reach 80% of the vote..minnesota needs runoff with top two candidates if no one gets 50% plus 1 vote..david duke ought to move up there..he might "win"..

If the Minnesota election were the first to be stolen, it would be making headlines ... the fact is that there are elections stolen by Democrats during every election cycle. Their technique is simple:
1 -- get the initial count close
2 -- start the recount, and keep (re)counting until the Democrat is ahead
3 -- Stop counting and declare victory.

This works especially well in the deep blue states like Maryland where Democrat politics reach down through all levels of public employees, including election officials.

At least the Iranian citizens put their lives on the line to stand up to their election-rigging overlords. Where are the massive protests?

If Pawlenty signs that without waiting for the Supremes, he will be signing his political death warrant, in my opinion.

Just what the Senate needs - another duffus. He’ll be in good company, with the other burned out bulbs - Schumer, Durbin, Reid and the CA twin horrors, Boxer and Feinstein.

“The World’s Most Deliberative Body” - HA! All that’s missing is for 0bambi to name his dog Senator. That’s puppy dog, not his wife.

“If Pawlenty signs that without waiting for the Supremes, he will be signing his political death warrant, in my opinion.”

Agreed to some extent, but he’s in a tight spot because if he doesn’t sign it, it looks just as bad that he’s not listening to his own state’s supreme court. State should rule over federal.
