If Republicans were wondering how their 2012 presidential candidate is going to compete against President Obama's $600 million fundraising juggernaut, the Supreme Court seems poised to provide an answer: unlimited corporate spending supporting the Republican candidate, or attacking Obama.
In a Supreme Court term that has had its share of surprises, the court saved one of the biggest for last. Rather than publish an opinion at the end of the term as expected in an obscure campaign finance case, Citizens United v. FEC, the court issued a rare order for reargument of the case in September (before the usual start of the term). At that point, the court will consider whether to overrule its two previous decisions that in 1990 and 2003 upheld limits on corporate spending in federal elections.

Haha!
LOLz!
Yeah sure, I can just see the GE money flowing to the Republicans now. /sarc
The demoRats are going to put a big push on to get Sotomayor confirmed and seated on the SC before this Sept.!!!!
...and have ALL those Government contracts, awarded (bribery) on merit.
...../more sarc.
This is such BS.
Corporations, companies, groups, ie non-persons don’t have rights.
As people, we are the special ones, from God who were given rights.
Corporations and such, should not be able to give money to candidates. That is only a special freedom and right reserved for people, individuals.
It will still be 5/4 though.
Right now it’s all entirely one way. GE, Soros, et al, have figured how to get all the money to DemonRats they want to contribute; just look at how the Obama campaign was financed. This will level the field becuase our people, who obey the law, will not be gagged by M-F.
That is such a common sense idea! This would put a stop to a lot of the incumbents being re-elected.
after sitting back and watching McCain being hoist on his own pontificating petard, even SCOTUS has come to the realization that this is laughably moot.
This would put a stop to a lot of the incumbents being re-elected.
It gives people better representation in the long run. Elected officials would be more representative of their constituents instead of the national party platform. The lobbyists would lose a lot of clout since they couldn't help get the politicians elected anymore. It also makes politics as a career much less appealing. Hiding graft and bribes would become much more difficult. The list goes on and on.
