WASHINGTON -- The first $250 payments to veterans as part of President Obama's recovery plan were sent Monday, and officials at the Department of Veterans Affairs said all payments will be distributed by June 30.

As part of the recovery plan, VA is making one-time payments of $250 to eligible veterans and survivors to offset the effects of the current economy. VA estimates $500 million in payments will be made to approximately 1.9 million veterans and eligible beneficiaries as part of this measure.

This appears to be a press release by the Department of Veterans Affairs.

I love our vets; I don't think they should be given printed "extra" money. This is, in my opinion, an Obama-like way of trying to curry favor with a population he is unpopular with.

I’m not eligible. Was ready to donate $250 to some worthy cause. Maybe I will anyway.

Looks like he’s trying to turn more of the disabled into Democrats.

I’ll either give mine to charity or the NRA. If the RNC weren’t shot through with RINOs I’d give it to them. $250 to ‘offset’ the effects of the 0bama Recession is a joke anyway.

beneficiaries must reside within the United States, Puerto Rico, Guam, Northern Mariana Islands, American Samoa or the U.S. Virgin Islands.

another stealth buy-American clause.

Just before I seperated, we had a VA rep come and brief us (for three hours) on all the great benefits we would get as veterans. They I applied for my health care card and was put in a category that will get me benefits.....never. In all honesty, I am in great health have health insurace from my job and would rather that the $$ go to the vets who really need it. I just wish they were more upfront about who was elgible to keep the rest of us from wasting our time.

I’m a vet, when do I get my check?

(Ok, so I was in almost 30 years ago, so what?)

I'm supposed to be getting one of those checks, and I can assure you it won't change my opinion of the the usurper, nor is it likely to change any other vet's opinion.

This is sort of like Jimmuh Cahter’s stunt in 1980; after four years of shafting the military with ever decreasing budgets (we didn't even have enough to buy ammo; we were using rimfire .22s for training!) and 1% pay raises (when inflation was running at 12%), he tried to “buy” our vote with a big pay raise just before the election. No one was fooled; the pay increase didn't make up for the past, and the operational budget was more important to most of us.

I hope you’re not alone. I work with a liberal vet who is just ga-ga over “Obama’s” gift. Disgusted, I told him to spend my kids’ money wisely...

As a DAV, I'll accept this money as a small reimbursement for all the wealth I've lost in my stock, my property and my CD's but I'll still curse the filthy, thieving b*stards that are driving me into poverty.

My democrat father-in-law thinks Obama is a prince but my opinion hasn't changed and I doubt many vets can be bought for such a pittance.

I just recently came from a Reunion, and was shocked at how outspoken some of them were for Him. We sent them running back to their own tables but it was still a shocker.

I got mine today. Like you, I think I'm going to use it to support a conservative Republican. In my case, I have a young fella who is making his first foray into state politics running against an 80 something year old incumbent state senator. He hasn't had any opposition for the last 25 years or so, so it should be interesting seeing him trying to keep up with this youngster. Maybe his heart will give out and my guy will win by default.

I’ll take mine - already told the kids I was taking them out to eat on their own dime.

As for Hussein (the big Zero), I don’t pay any attention to anything he says. He has no integrity. If you don’t actively stand up against this loser and his ideas - you are condoning him and them.

LOL, my Dad, 90, will find some good use for his check. I doubt it will change his mind about Obama.

Does anyone remember when Biden was poopooing the first Bush stimulus checks for $600?

Yeah, I remember his Secretary of Defense saying, "If you don't like it, vote with your feet.", and people did by the thousands. We had ships tied up to the pier in Norfolk that couldn't get underway because we didn't have enough boiler technicians to run the power plants.

That said, I believe that Obama's actually going to be a worse president than Jimmy Carter was.

Got my check a couple days ago. Barry could send me $250 every week for life, and it wouldn’t change my opinion of him. I intend to spend the money on reloading supplies. He would probably take it back if he knew that.

He's ga-ga over $250??? However, if he's a Kool-Aid drinker, I suppose he'd be ecstatic over getting a nickel back; remember, those on the Left seldom pay ANY taxes!

This is from an article in the St Petersburg Times a few months back; it sure would have been a more effective “stimulus”.. But then, the stimulus wasn't about stimulating anything but support for the regime.

Dear Mr.President,

Patriotic retirement:

There are about 40 million people over 50 in the work force;

pay them $1 million a piece severance with stipulations:

1) They leave their jobs. Forty million job openings - Unemployment fixed.

2) They buy NEW American cars. Forty million cars ordered - Auto Industry
fixed.

3) They either buy a house or pay off their mortgage- Housing Crisis fixed.

All this and it's still cheaper than the “bailout”.
