New Hearings Ordered in Campaign-Finance Case (McCain-Feingold)

WASHINGTON -- The Supreme Court ordered new hearings in a case challenging McCain-Feingold, the law that aims to restrict political spending at election time, signaling the possibility it is considering a more sweeping approach to the question.

The court had been expected to rule Monday on a narrow question on whether McCain-Feingold applied to electioneering materials delivered through video-on-demand services. The case before the court involves a critical documentary about Hillary Clinton released during the presidential primary. The question before the court was whether it should be considered a campaign ad and regulated as such.

Instead, the court asked the parties to argue a much broader question: whether recent precedents upholding restrictions of corporate spending on political advertisements should be overruled.

This issue was the beginning of my problems with George Bush. He failed to uphold his oath of office by vetoing this legislation, even though he knew it was unconstitutional. He said he would sign it and let the Supreme Court overturn it.....well, I'm still waiting.

This is another case of George trying to make nice with people who don't matter (John McCain in this case), and getting it stuffed up his backside. I hope our next Republican president understands that you can't try to make nice with the Dems and moderate/liberal Republicans. He should treat them like Pelosi, Reed, and Obama are treating us at the present time.
