Obama prioritizes energy-efficiency standards By Sam Youngman Posted: 06/29/09 02:22 PM [ET] President Obama announced Monday that his administration is prioritizing energy-efficiency standards for home appliances, specifically light bulbs.

The president announced that the Department of Energy will accelerate the spending of a "$346 million investment under the Recovery Act to expand and accelerate the development, deployment and use of energy-efficient technologies in residential and commercial buildings."

"Between 2012 and 2042, these new standards will save consumers up to $4 billion a year, conserve enough electricity to power every home in America for 10 months, reduce emissions equal to the amount produced by 166 million cars each year and eliminate the need for as many as 14 coal-fired power plants," Obama said.

The man has a point. Aren’t we STILL reaping the returns on Jimmy Carter’s Synfuels program?

Is this the same Barry Soetoro who said during the campaign $18B in pork is peanuts? What’s the big deal over $4B, then?

As always, whatever O does, you can be sure it won’t reduce our consumption of imported oil by a single drop. Not a drop.

And, while presenting himself as the new messiah, in the end the only answers he has to the crisis of the age is to recommend that you change your light bulbs. Put a little air in your tires. Thats it? Thats the secret plan?

Yes. Thats it.

Right out of the Alinsky playbook...if you tell big enough lies, the masses believe them.

The economy continues to grind to a halt. Our two most dangerous enemies are each on the precipice of developing nuclear weapons, or the capacity to deliver them intercontinentally. And, we still are fighting two wars on separate fronts.

All of this is going on, and Barry is worried about light bulbs. You really can't make this stuff up.

Remember, everyone, that 100W light bulbs are going to be *outlawed* in the US by 2012(!!!), and some of the biggest names in light bulb production such as Philips, GE, Osram and Sylvania will in fact be halting production of incandescent bulbs well before the agreed cut off date. YOU MAY ONLY HAVE TWO YEARS OR LESS LEFT TO GET 100W BULBS.

ALL incandescent light bulbs will be *outlawed* by 2014.

You can still get a 4-pack of 100W bulbs at dollar stores, but have to assume that they are low quality, will not last as long, and many will be dead on arrival.

How many 100W light bulbs do you go through every decade? 20, 40 or more? Unless you want to drive to Mexico to get light bulbs that don’t give you headaches, give ugly light, and are loaded with toxic mercury, BUY LIGHTBULBS NOW.

I heard the audio of this on Rush's show. It sounded like he paused after "sexy", as if expecting a titter from the audience.

Oh, that Barry. Wotta comedian. Funny thing is Barry, there's nothing funny about you.

It will be seen once the dust settles that this is nothing but a gigantic political payoff to General Electric.
