CARACAS, Venezuela — Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez on Sunday put troops on alert after a coup in Honduras and said he would respond militarily if his envoy to the Central American country was kidnapped or killed.
Chavez said Honduran soldiers took away the Cuban ambassador and left the Venezuelan ambassador on the side of a road after beating him during the army's coup against his leftist ally, Honduran President Manuel Zelaya.
The Honduran army ousted Zelaya and exiled him in Central America's first military coup since the Cold War, after he upset the army by trying to win re-election.
Chavez said on state television if his ambassador to Venezuela was killed, or if troops entered the Venezuelan Embassy, "that military junta would be entering a de facto state of war. We would have to act militarily ... I have put the armed forces of Venezuela on alert."
Ecuadorean President Rafael Correa, part of a coalition of leftist governments headed by Chavez that includes Honduras, said he would support military action if Ecuador's diplomats or those of its allies were threatened.
The socialist Chavez has in the past threatened to use his armed forces in the region but never followed through. He said that if a new government is sworn in after the coup it would be defeated.

Zelaya was term limited and called an illegal referendum on his running again. The Supreme Court, legislature and military all said there was no provision in their constitution for such a vote and the court issued an order to remove Zelaya. Had Reuters been interested in even the slightest truth, they would have printed the facts, not the lies they did print.

Perhaps we need a similar coup in NYC where Socialist Billionaire Dictator for Life Bloomberg has bought City Hall so he can use New York as his private experimental playground.

However, I have friends in Honduras and got an email this AM. They’re out in a rural town, far from the capitol. Many of the residents have no TV or radio, and the local TV channels were shut down yesterday anyway. (they have cable and were getting news from CNN)
But the poor locals are believing it’s a “conspiracy” to oust Zelaya. Evidently Zelaya played a nice game of class warfare among the people of Honduras. There’s a curfew, soldiers were, at times present in the town, but nothing really happened.
The talk, they said, was of Chavez invading. The rumor about military planes that flew overhead were that they were from Chavez, but in small towns like they live, the news is just that, mostly rumors.
Besides the fact that Honduras is a narcoeconomy.

I have a Honduran friend who says that too many people from there went to LA, learned to be gang-bangers, then brought that culture back home.
