Hugo Chávez's coalition-building efforts suffered a setback yesterday when the Honduran military sent its president packing for abusing the nation's constitution.

From Honduras Free Press Daily: (They’ve been having “tea parties” leading up to this. Chavez flew in thousands of ballots, which were promptly distributed as the “4th box” on the referendum, then gathered up by the estimated 87% of the poulation who objected, and thrown away or returned to Mr. Chavez attache”.

Over 3000 protesters assembled in front of the National Congress today in a show of solidarity against the illegal activities of the Honduran President. The peaceful demostration was puncuated by a 25 block march from Congrewss to the offices of the Joint Chiefs of Staff of the Honduras military, where they demonstratorsd were joined by the commanders of the Honduran armed forces and hundreds of reservists who declared the actions of the Presdient illegal and unconstitional. This growing movement of Democracy and Peace has earned the support of the Joints Chiefs of Staff of the Honduran Armed Forces.
The first headline I’ve seen that is accurate - the lib MSM calling it coup.
It was actually their Supreme Court that issued the order to have him arrested for violating the Constitution.
It’s kinda nice when the truth wins!

The future? Given the past and given the last five months, IMHO, certainly a possibility.
Gen. Alexander Haig, Richard Nixon's last White House chief of staff, claimed that he stayed in contact with the Pentagon, prior to Nixon's resignation, in the event the president used extra-constitutional action to retain power. Haig was inferring that the military would subdue Nixon if he flipped out.
Exactly. The GOP needs to loudly point out the inept and hypocritical foreign policy of this administration. It is amateur night and the growing 'axis of evil' smells the weakness.
We should be taking notes on how the Hondurans got rid of their president for abusing the constitution. It may come to that here.

Mr. Obama had better take a good look. This could be him in the future. Imagine him being tried in military tribunal. He is after all head of the military. He doesn’t get the same rites, and evidence is more easliy admitted in military tribunals.

Honduran president Zalaya called a referendum for the purpose of amending the constitution to permit him to stay in office indefinitely. In “US speak” he amended the constitution by executive order to avoid having to go through the amendment process legally.”
The Honduran attorney general called out the military to prevent a coup de etat, of the style commonly termed “autocoup” or “self-coup,” by president Zalaya. He appears to have acted on instruction of the Honduran supreme court which quickly endorsed the action.
The military and the courts acting together announced an election this fall for the purpose of legally and constitutionally electing a new president, and a takeover of Honduras by Venezuela’s Hugo Chavez - both exactly what Zalaya was atttempting to accomplish.
THE POINT: Presidents Hugo Chavez of Venezuela, Oscar Arias Sanchez of Costa Rica, Cristina Fernandez of Argentina and several other lesser leftist lights of latin america quickly denounced the action ALONG WITH president Barak Obama of the US.
Interestingly all four have the common problem of how to achieve the nullification of their constitutions in order to achieve their political goals.
Does anyone believe this is not a significant omen for americans?

Anyone wonder if this, and Obama and the state department’s nearly instant condemnation of this effort to preserve democracy in Honduras and their tacit support for the dictatorship in Iran, is NOT an omen for the US future?
