Obama rode wave of 3.7 million donors to victory (McCain = 827K)

Preliminary results of a study on presidential campaign donations shows that President Obama had more than 3.7 million donors compared with 827,000 who donated to Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.)

And while Obama had a substantial lead over McCain in small donors -- $200 or less -- Obama also led in the number of individuals who gave at or near the legal limit of $4,600, researchers at Brigham Young University said. Donors gave Obama $700 million to Obama (sic) and $316 million to McCain.

Donations from individuals giving $200 or less represented nearly a quarter ($178 million) of Obama's fund-raising total but only 7 percent ($35 million) of McCain's.

Obama raised nearly $135 million from individuals giving at or near the legal limit, compared with just less than $110 million for McCain.

"What killed us was gazillions of blacks [who normally do not vote], women, and students [who vote sporadically].

No. That was just media hype. Post-election data showed that about the same amount of voters turned out as in previous elections, but that Republican voters were more likely not to vote (than any increase in overall Democratic support).

The Axelrod machine did increase turnout in key swing areas, like the previusly contested states of Florida, Ohio, which accounts for the electoral vote spread.

The presidency wasn't bought and paid for, and saying stuff like that plays into the hands of the idiots pushing campaign finance "reform"—idiots like McQueeg, I'll point out, whose fundraising numbers might have been just a little more competitive if he hadn't gone with public financing. There's little evidence that advertising in general works, even less that political advertising works—people just tune it out. What's screwed up about our system is that our media's Party loyalty would have made the editors of Pravda blush.

There are 3.7 million reporters in America???

One hundred thousand reporters, and a few thousand People's Liberation Army noncoms in a boiler room with Visa gift cards.

I think we could use some finance reform. What did the Kenyan do with the millions left over. Why is it that nobody wins elections without having a lot of money?

Also noting how they don't breakdown foreign and domestic sources.

THAT's what I wanted to find out. Something stinks.

IIRC, obama did not have to report the vast majority of his contributions, because they did not meet to thread-hold to report it. So we really do not know who gave what, is that not correct?

We do know that some Palestinians gave to him, illegally, iirc.

If I understand the way this had traditionally worked, the republicans in the past have outpaced the democrat party in the percentage of people who gave smaller amounts of money.

IIRC, The RNC has released its data on this for a while, and the DNC refused to do so, because they knew full well how it would stack up.

In this last cycle, this was the first election cycle I did not donate to the RNC or the Republican candidate, even a small amount. I refused to do it, because I viewed the operations of the party as being completly inefficient, unfocused and not in line with my values as a conservative.

Instead, I gave directly to a variety of candidates at various levels.

And I don’t think I was alone in this.

Can anyone out the validate my recollection on the donor statistics?

OT: BTW, I heard slick Willie got busted the same time as Sanford... you have any links yet?

Back later, i’m pissed because youtube deleted all my past O videos... good thing I have them burned to put back up (for the 20th or so time).

a couple thoughts
1. Obama promised to use public financing, but didn’t.
If he did he would have been responsible to release records such as birth certificates ... they would have been able to vet him.
2. His donors did spend quite a bit of money, but the odd numbers like $247.17 are only questionable until you find out what the trade for say .. Saudi Arabia was for that day. Then you will see it was $200 american = $247.17 Saudi.
3. He wanted the lists of donors to turn onto ACORN.

He bought the election plain and simple. Air and face time is what made him what he is.

I would guess that this is a bunch of cr*p.

We know already that many of Obama’s donors were fakes. We know already that his campaign turned off the credit card authentification functions, so no checks were made on whether donors existed or whether they lived at the addresses provided.

And we can guess that large donors, including foreign donors and Arab Sheikhs and Communist Chinese and George Soros, probably packaged their donations so it would look like multiple small gifts from a large number of people.

Frankly, I don’t believe this story for a minute. All they have to go on is what the Obama campaign has given them, and we know that Obama and his handlers are a gang of crooks. Nothing that they give the news media, especially at this late date when they have had months to work it over, can possibly be trusted.

And the FEC didn’t check it out, either, since Obama opted out of matching federal funds under McCain-Feingold. So they only looked at McCain’s donations.

I wonder how many were named Mohammad, Kgalema, Mahmoud, Hugo, or Fidel?
