Starting June 30th, United States armed forces will remove themselves from a direct role in the guarding and oversight of Iraqi cities, signaling the beginning of the end to the years-long presence of Americas military within the countrys metropolitan centers.
Though they will still be on call in a support role, it is believed that these troops will begin a rotation out from Iraq altogether and that for the most part Iraqs own armed forces and police agencies will step into the breach and take responsibility for their own homeland defense.
It also remains an open question among some experts as to whether or not the Iraqis are truly ready, but the turnover has to come sooner or later. We have plenty of hope, even though there has been an uptick in bombings within the cities.
... We wonder, though, if anything will really be done by the Obama administration were such a melee to ensue at some point in the near future or in any future at all, for that matter. So far, the signs are not encouraging.

Under Obama’s “leadership”, Iraq will lapse back in civil war. Then, they will seek Iran’s help as a “strategic partner” to help restore order in order to continue to withdraw troops. Iran will happily step up to the plate. Within 2-3 years, Iraq will be a colony of a (nuclear) Iran. And Chinese engineers will be manning the oil fields.
Don't think for a nanosecond that the AlQaeda haven't done their homework on the 'rat congress vis a vis VietNam in the seventies. They know G--D---- well that Obama, Pelosi and Co. will never show the flag in Iraq again, no matter what kind of atrocities are perpetrated there.
That's just the way it works over there.
The U.S. by default assumed the role of "strongman" for a number of years, but unless we were willing to keep pouring blood and treasure into Iraq indefinitely, some other "whatever" will fill the vacuum.
I don't think most Americans, even our leaders, understand the Middle East.
Yep, now all we need is to change the name of Baghdad to Saigon while getting helicopters to lift people off the roof of the American embassy, and the duplication of the end of the Vietnam conflict will be complete.
Thank you so much, commie RATS. Your destruction of America continues. God, I hate the 60’s generation. Death to liberals and leftists.
All of these have already laid the bet on the table...and I believe we (in the US) have been collecting for some time, despite the MSM and the likes of Obama and his ilk.
You mean this "constitution."
Article 2: First: Islam is the official religion of the State and it is a fundamental source of legislation:
A. No law that contradicts the established provisions of Islam may be established.
BTW, "honor" killings are still 100% legal.
This "constitution" is a tragic joke. Not only to clueless westerners with bright ideas of seeing "western" democracies foisted on such an alien culture, but it's a joke to the Sunnis, Shiites and everyone else in Iraq.
It will be flushed down the toilet at the first opportunity.
Time will tell, and my hope is that whatever measure of republican principle and freedom (not deomcracy) that they have acquired will hold. It is far better than what they experienced under Hussein.
Same holds for Afghanistan and the Taliban...facts which are not lost on the people in Iran or the mullahs.
By the two year anniversary of this pull back, Iraq will again be under the rule of terrorists but thankfully, we’ll have either the House or Senate back under Republican control and be able to stymie the schmuck currently sullying 1600 Pennsylvania Ave. and creating chaos everywhere his attention wanders off to.
Based on my friends (both military and contractors) who have been in country for years now, they tell a different story.
Next time you have to opportunity, ask them about the regular (actually, for all intents and purposes compelled) homosexual sex the Iraqi "security forces" (police, military) are regularly having on each other.
Then ask them how many of those security force personnel would be left after subtracting those who are sympathetic to various criminal or anti-western factions, then subtract those who are corrupt/taking bribes.
They'll tell you there would be almost none left.
Even if they were't all of this, the Iraqi police and military is an undisciplined disaster. They couldn't fight their way out of a paper bag. They be scattered in short order when (not if, when) things start heating up. They're largely a bunch of heathens, liars and crooks who have no concept whatsoever of western ideals of law, order, duty etc.
Leaving aside that the inconsequential nature of the security forces and that the "constitution" is insignificant to most in Iraq and elsewhere - the country was a devolved, chaotic and austere Mideast mess before we showed up, it was such while we were there and it will be such after we leave.
I have supported the US position of "Freedom for Iraq" since day one, in early 2003. I now support the timely drawdown of US forces to the suburbs, as it is time for the Iraqis to stand up for their own country, as well as it is the agreed upon schedule. To state that we will abandon former allies to their fate because we have an insatiable desire to "move on." is total BS. It is what the Iraqis demanded, and we agreed to, while GWB was president. It is time for us to let Iraq have Iraq.
I heard the general in charge on the radio this morning. All US forces are already out of the cities. He said that the drawback began EIGHT months ago. This was before the election. The writer of this article is either ignorant or lying...typical DBM so-called news reporting.
I think that they will spin it to have Obama the hero of Iraq. If it hadn't been for GWB, Iraq would still be under the thumb of Saddam Hussein.
