Iran 'must free UK embassy staff' (or else?)
bbc ^ | 6/29/2009 | bbc

The European Union has demanded the immediate release of Iranian staff at Britain's embassy in Tehran detained on Saturday over post-election unrest.

EU ministers meeting in Greece warned that "harassment or intimidation" of embassy staff would be met with a "strong and collective" response.

Iranian media reported that eight local staff at the UK mission had been held for their role in the recent riots.

UK Foreign Secretary David Miliband dismissed the allegations as baseless.

Relations between the countries are strained after President Ahmadinejad accused the UK of stoking post-election protests, which London denies.

Iran has repeatedly accused foreign powers - especially Britain and the US - of meddling after the 12 June election, which handed President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad a decisive victory.

In the fallout of the crisis, Tehran expelled two British diplomats in the past week, and the UK has responded with a similar measure.

Shouldn’t they wait 444 days first?

Then, have a Walter Cronkite look a like close every news release by stating which day it is?

We’ve seen this before and hopefully the Brits will not repeat Jimmuh Cahtah’s mistakes.

I hope too they don’t expect any help from B HO either. They’d do better asking the French.

They won't send just any old letter. They will send a Strongly Worded letter asking politely that their people be released. That ought to do the trick, what.

The NK’eans can tell Iran all about those “strong responses”, they are still reeling from the ones that was hurled at them by the Fuckwadi and hitlery.

I believe it was in 1980 when the Iranians seized a building in London. A woman police constable was killed. At that point, the SAS was called in to sort the issue out. I’d be looking out for some rather fit young men turning up in Iran fairly soon.

Britain is being subjected to the very same test the USA was subjected to in 1979.

It's up to the UK to respond effectively. To do so, they need to be confident they have the full and unequivocal support of the USA.

Which means that, at bottom, this is actually another test of the USA. And Barack Obama is playing the role originated by Jimmeh Cahtuh.

The Brits can kiss those Iranian staffers good-bye...

I think the incident involving the killing of a WPC (Yvonne Fletcher) which you are referring to was something that happened near the Libyan Embassy a few years later. The gunshot was thought to have come from the embassy but the police couldn’t do anything about it because of diplomatic privileges (the Libyans refused to let the police interview or arrest anyone in the Embassy).

In the 1980 Iranian Embassy siege, the SAS went in after they started murdering the embassy staff. Every last terrorist but one was shot dead, and the lone survivor only survived because by the time he was discovered, he was already outside with the rescued hostages under the glare of the world’s cameras.
Ironically, the terrorists were opposed to the Iranian Revolution and had been sponsored by Saddam Hussein, who was supposed to be the West’s bestest friend at that time....

I forgot about the Libyan connection. In any event, you don’t want to get the SAS on your bad side. “Who Dares, Wins.”
