LOUISVILLE, Ky. For one day, at least, it was OK to pack heat in church.
More than 200 people answered gun-toting Pastor Ken Pagano's call to celebrate the Second Amendment at New Bethel Church in Louisville on Saturday. There was just one rule for the several dozen who brought their guns along: No bullets.

"I just believe in the right to protect ourselves," said Liz Boyer, who had a bright pink Glock in a black holster at her side. The 41-year-old isn't a member of the church but teaches a class on gun safety for women at a local range.
Brittany Rogers, 23, feared guns as a child. But her fiance encouraged her to go sport shooting with him about a year ago, and she said she has been hooked ever since. On Saturday, she brought her tiny Kel-Tec P-32 to church.
"It was a fear of the unknown," Rogers said, "but now I love it."

Across town, a coalition of peace and church groups concerned about Pagano's appeal to gun owners staged their own gun-free event.
"I think when people first learned about this invitation to wear guns to church, many people were deeply troubled," said Terry Taylor, one of the organizers. "The idea of wearing guns to churches or any sacred space I think many people find deeply troubling."
Pagano's event also troubled his church's longtime insurance carrier, which declined to insure the event and informed him it won't renew the policy. He found a new carrier at a cost of $700 for the day, but guns had to be unloaded.

This is political correctness run amuck. Logically, insurance companies should be charging people with guns *less* money. There is definitely a market here.
The *no bullets* rule is bizaare.
I notice that AP did not say how many people attended the "gun free" event.
.....Hmmmm...charging more for a "safer" environment....Petitio Principii....
He should have titled it “Bring your clubs” to church! This is one dumb event!
I take my Springfield .45 with me to church and it is(and who knows how many others in attendance are) welcome - LOADED!
I do not see the logical fallacy. The purpose of companies is to make money. Currently companies are charging a lot more for actions that make the environment they are insuring safer. It seems they could gain a competitive advantage by charging less.
Where is the logical fallacy?
I pack in church consistently. There won’t be a replay of a church shooting if I have anything to say about it.
Charging more for a policy that reduces risk......? That's illogical...
Insurance companies charge more for increased risk not reduced risk......GRIN
This is a battle in the culture wars, and Pastor Pagano just scored considerable points for our side. I would love to see more churches do this. We need to continue to re-legetimize guns. The left has been delegitimizing them for decades. In colonial America, there were laws *requiring* people to bring guns to church!
I pack and pray all of the time. Our priest blessed our shooting irons and ammo. We ready.
In a perfect transfer of information market, competition would quickly lead to lower rates for reduced risk. But, the innumerable regulations on insurance companies, and the tremendous disinformation campaign in the MSM about this behavior, has lead to the current market contradiction.
oh....I see...Capitalism.....it works everytime it's tried.....GRIN...and agreed.
It was advertised that the guns would be UNLOADED! This is an open invitation to the bad guys!!!!! I believe it was a great disservice to his congregation and posed a substantial hazard to his flock. No wonder the insurance company wanted a premium!
He could have simply stated his convictions and made it “bring your guns to church” day and not mentioned whether loaded or unloaded.
Bring a gun but no bullets? What’s the point, then?
I agree that it would have been better if he had not said the guns should be unloaded. But, he was making a political statement about our rights.
He deserves credit for making the statement. Where are the other churches having Pro-Second Amendment events? His baby steps overshadow all those other timid folks that are not willing to take a step at all.
I see your point. It’s just a shame we have to approach our rights with “baby steps.”
The “gun free” event was populated by PEACE groups. In other words, radical America hating leftists in favor of making the ownership of guns illegal. Look at the number of groups with PEACE in the name and you’ll find Marxism and Communism run amok in their membership rolls. Of course the AP author didn’t think this interesting enough to print.
Yes, “peace groups”, but, how many were there? I doubt if it was more than a handful, which is why the number was not reported.
A perfect scenario for mass gun confiscation by the criminals in or out of government.Suddenly a team of shotgun wielding thugs, uniformed or not, train their LOADED weapons on the crowd and demand all guns be placed in the back of the pickup/minivan/car trunk.Within a couple of minutes a hundred guns are "on the streets" ,the leftists shout "this is proof private guns don't make you safer",etc.
I have to concur with those who ridicule the idea of carrying an unloaded gun ,it is worse than pointless.
Some years ago I attended a gun safety class where the instructor mentioned that she doesn’t go anywhere without her gun. She displayed various purses to purchase made to hold handguns. So why are journalism whores just getting into the subject?
