What were the people at NBC News thinking? Long-time NBC anchor Tom Brokaw was being considered for a White House appointment when he interviewed President Obama on Jan. 5 and covered him on the news.
The position in question was to become a commissioner on the White House Fellows Commission. Neither NBC nor Mr. Brokaw ever made any disclosure that Mr. Brokaw had been offered or was considering the position. It was not until June 17 that NBC made public that Mr. Brokaw was joining the commission.
According to the White House Web site, the White House Fellows program is "America's most prestigious program for leadership and public service. White House Fellows typically spend a year working as full-time, paid special assistants to senior White House Staff, the vice president, Cabinet secretaries and other top-ranking government officials." For many, being involved firsthand in the formation of government policy is undoubtedly a heady experience. The commission selects who receives these fellowships.
The White House Press Office has refused to respond to multiple press inquiries from us over the past week. This includes basic questions such as when they started to talk to Mr. Brokaw about the position and when he accepted it. . . .

“What were the people at NBC News thinking?”
That very few people in journalism or politics really care about journalistic ethics, as evidenced by decades of American history.
The coin of the realm is further and further devalued.
The Media-Government Merger has no conflicts, no conflicts at all, move along, nothing to see.
"Thinking" and "NBC News" mentioned in the same sentence? Tres etrange.
I hate suggesting this...but used car dealers have more ethics than the management of the dinosaur media. I would even go as far to suggest that pimps in New Jersey...have more ethics than NBC leadership.
Just say no to drugs??

To BAD he didn't listen.
We've been played for quite sometime now.
Just another disappointing media creation
Journalist and ethics don’t go together except to benefit them personally. What ever they do will be “ethical” and within journalistic ethics since they are completely elastic. Of course if you don’t tow the appropriate liberal line ethics are no longer expansive but you will be held to a much higher standard than anyone else. If they are liberal (most are)and you question their ethics they are very thin skinned and will do what they can to damage you if your charge is effective.
I think it was Brian Williams, Tom Brokaw or one of the other mindless idiots who serves Obama rather than questions him?
apparently should be June 5.
Fortunately, Mr. Brokaw was more forthcoming. He wrote us that he was contacted about joining the commission a month or so before the public announcement,
which was June 17, according to the article. This is all but a quid pro quo.
It was Brian Williams, the loser.
Ha ha! This is a joke, right?
Heh, no... they are not the slightest bit "confused".
They knew exactly what they were doing. "Ethics" are not even on their radar screen.
I don’t think they have any eithics.

If they’re talking about the MTP interview, it was actually 12/7/08; to me, it isn’t a big issue, since Brokaw wasn’t informed he was being considered until 6 months later. I also find it hard to believe that the transition team, which was scrambling to come up with major appointments, was worried about and advisory board.
