I don’t think it’s a failure of courage on his part. He simply doesn’t see anything wrong with what’s going on in Iran. The most recent statements of “outrage” were demanded by his teleprompter for domestic consumption. He probably sent a back channel communique to Achmadenijab explaining it’s all just politics.
