What a public relations nightmare Mark Sanfords revelations about his affair present to the GOP.
But I suggest that we not concern ourselves with public relations, or with sympathy for Sanford. And we should certainly not follow the path taken by Democrats, whose betrayed wives, like Elizabeth Edwards, go on a book tour or try to rationalize their husbands affairs, as Hillary Clinton did.
Sanfords affair proves that ones personal life contrary to the claims of the Clinton lied but no one died contingent does affect ones ability to govern. Sanfords disastrous press conference revealed that he is a man still torn between his mistress and his wife. That as a governor he could take off for Argentina and place his state in jeopardy proves that the emotional turmoil of an extramarital affair clouds ones thinking and actions. It gives the lie to the claim that ones personal life has nothing to do with job performance. It proves that politicians personal lives should be the subject of scrutiny. Only a conscienceless person could carry on an affair without it clouding his thinking. Of course, there are the sociopaths, but we dont want them in office either....

He’s a distraction and showed very poor judgement. He should just resign and put his life back together.
Funny, GOP quicker to dump on Sanford than the Zero was to call Iran’s election a sham.

Resign - NOW
I thought that was happening.
If he cannot or will not resign, then he should be removed. There is no room for debate, discussion or the expression of different points of view. There is no tolerance, “LUV” or other twaddle that is killing our society.
One downside to a resignation: the Lt. Governor, Andre Bauer, is a homosexual.
Stephen Colbert has already volunteered once to be the next Governor.

What?? All the more reason to think Sanford put his state and our country at risk, by blatantly and selfishly disregarding the effect this would have on the party, therefore the country, when it all came out. He put his personal lust ahead of what was best for this country. Unforgivable. And knowing his lt gov is homosexual? Makes it 10 times worse.
But his little fling ruined all that. His voice will no longer be heard, or at least won't for a great number of years. He will not hold high-ranking office any more. A come-back is not likely.
Don’t hold your breath!!!
All because he couldn’t or wouldn’t keep his zipper up.
Regardless what Sanford does, we can resolve to never vote for him again, for anything. We can run the Republican Party with our votes, if we remain steadfast.
Using taxpayer dollars for this does it for me. He should go.
Yes, he should resign. He used taxpayer money for the trips, he left his state with no-one in charge, and he had an affair with a non-American, who could have who-knows-what connections.
Sanford should resign so the state can get a pork barrel RINO in the governor’s chair who will promptly raise taxes, steal money, kiss obuma’s butt, push his liberal agenda and block conservatives running for the governorship next election.
Idiots calling for his resignation are Exhibit A why the Republican party is called the stupid party.
Heartfelt prayers for the Sanford boys. They are the innocent ones in all of this mess. Prayers for the whole family.
I realize this is a political discussion, but the horrendous ramifications of Sanford’s lust are so much more devastating than the loss of his career, and the possible effects on the Republican Party.
The lives of four beautiful young boys have been drastically altered by their father’s sin, and it’s being played out on the world stage. The emails between Sanford and his lover have been published in newspapers and talked about on television and radio. There are no protective media types wanting to shield the Sanford boys as they did Elizabeth Edwards and her children - quite the contrary. So, the Sanford boys will suffer through every indignity of the attacks on their father, who has gone from role model to shame. Father’s Day will always be the marker of the devastation their father brought on their family.
Sanford supposedly wrote in one of the emails about the “lightning strike” of love after so many years. He is lying to her and to himself. He knew in his heart that he was tempted. He said as much about the first time he saw her. He chose the path of David with Bathsheba rather than Joseph with Potipher’s wife.
Joseph refused to betray the trust of Potipher, and to sin against God.
How sad that Mark Sanford chose to break the trust of his wife and sons, and sin against God in front of the whole world.
The only good thing I can find in all of this, for the Republican Party, is that it happened now rather than later.
I pray that good will come for the Sanford family somewhere down the line. God be with them.
Sanford a good governor. This is a terrible time for him to resign, when the GOP is under so much pressure. He’s one of the few people who can stand up to Obama.
Stay and fight, Governor.
