UNITED NATIONS, June 27 (KUNA) -- Amid US and European reservation, a High-Level UN Conference on the World Financial and Economic Crisis and its Impact on Development late Friday adopted by consensus a final outcome document containing a sweeping action plan to help mitigate the effect of the economic crisis on the developing countries.

General Assembly President Father Miguel d'Escoto, who convened the conference, hailed the consensus as the "first step in a long process of putting the world on a new path towards solidarity, stability and sustainability." He was also gratified that the UN or the "G-192", in reference to the number of member states, has now been established as the "central forum for the discussion of world financial and economic issues, and this in itself is a major achievement." Kuwait was represented at the conference by a delegation led by Fawzi Al-Hunaif, Director of Operations at Kuwait Fund for Arab Economic Development (KFAED).

The nearly 60-paragraph outcome document expressed the participants' belief that the crisis, "which began in the world's major financial centres, has spread throughout the global economy and is negatively affecting all countries, particularly developing countries, threatening the livelihoods and development opportunities of millions of people." The participants, including head of governments, ministers and high-level officials, pledged to combine their short-term responses to meet the immediate impact of the financial and economic crisis, particularly on the most vulnerable countries, with medium- and long-term responses that necessarily involve the pursuit of development and the review of the global economic system.

In that context, they proposed a course of action that included, among others, strengthening the capacity, effectiveness and efficiency of the United Nations and its development system. They also requested the Economic and Social Council to coordinate system-wide follow-up to the outcome document's recommendations, and consider setting up an ad hoc panel of experts on the crisis.

These utter morons, and all the other government imbeciles in the United States and around the world, simply WILL NOT learn. You cannot LEGISLATE away a bad economy - all you can do is deregulate business, take the cuffs off the world’s entrepreneurs, and then stand back and let them make money happen.

How in the world can you expect to generate profits with a lot of socialist regulation of profits??? It’s just utterly stupid and in absolute defiance of the most basic common sense.

The maddening thing is that even that variety of common sense is clearly far beyond the capabilities of all these egomaniacal, self-styled intellectuals and brain-dead Ph.D.s

Yep- the fact that htey announced this when they saw that the US lost their minds and voted for cap and trade just goes to show that the UN has ‘seen hte light’ inthat, they beleive the world is just sheepish enough at htis point that we won’t fight back agaisnt blatant attempts by htem at lording it over us. I beleive we are close to hte end times, when hte masses will look to big brother to ‘take care of everything’ for us, and hte UN is poised to take that role with an iron fist!

In other words, give the UN more power to dictate what is best for the proletariat. Gee, that sounds familiar...

Yep but they have pages and pages of documents that say nothing because they change their wording for all of their power grabbing stuff. Sounds like 0bama.

God help us all. Just when it looked like things couldn’t get any worse, the UN steps in.

"adoption of a document calling for “new voluntary and innovative sources of financing initiatives to provide additional stable sources of development finance...” This is U.N.-speak for global taxes. They are anything but “voluntary” for the people forced to pay them.

The UN's perfect, unbroken record of near-accomplishment and intention-to-succeed will remain intact, as will it's 100% failure rate.

No doubt given Obama’s response to his healthcare infomercial, this does not include him or his family....

Newspeak seems increasingly to be the “in” mode of (non)communication everywhere. No one says what they really mean anymore. In fact, everywhere you turn these days, people are dissembling and obfuscating, so that their perceived intentions will be very different from their real intentions. It’s a form of lying which seeks to evade the label of “liar.” Unfortunately, there are a lot of fuzzy thinking folks who are taken in by all the mumbo-jumbo and phony baloney.
