Opening in select theaters today, "The Stoning of Soraya M." is a movie based on a true story, depicting how women behind the Muslim curtain are victimized by corrupt forces wielding Shariah law to justify and cover their tyranny.
WND interviewed Stephen McEveety, maker of cutting-edge films such as "An American Carol" and "The Passion of the Christ" and producer of "The Stoning of Soraya M."
"When we started this movie, I had no idea that it would be as relevant as it has become today, on the date we're releasing the film," McEveety said. "Now, with the elections turning out the way they did in Iran, it's particularly interesting because it gives an insight into the way politics can corrupt a society.
"This movie puts you right there in Iran," McEveety continued. "It's real, it's honest, it's truthful and you get a very good indication of what parts of society are like in that country."
The film, based on the true account reported by an French-Iranian journalist who went undercover to reveal Soraya's story, focuses on two women: Soraya, whose philandering husband disposes of her by manipulating the law into having her stoned for adultery; and Zahra, who pleads with the journalist to escape the village and tell Soraya's story to the world.
McEveety insists, however, that "The Stoning of Soraya M." is not an attack on Muslims, but on how wicked men use Islam and Shariah law to victimize others.
"In this film you see a woman who is a victim," McEveety told WND, "not necessarily the victim of a corrupt religious system, but a victim of a corrupt political system that is using religion to empower abusers; and Iran is in a scenario right now where their political system is empowering tyrants and abusers."

To effectively criticize Islam, in a way that “smarts” for Muslims, there is an important bit of background to know.
Back when Islam was founded, in the 7th Century, though there were towns and cities, the political system was tribalism and polytheism, and it was in sorry shape. Islam was a significant improvement over this, which is why it was so successful. It made sense, and was far more orderly and civilized.
At the time, its victory represented civilization defeating barbarism, and this is key to how Muslims see themselves, even today. And for about 500 years, Muslims were perhaps the most civilized people in the western world, accomplished in learning and scholarship.
Then, in the 12th Century, a Persian philosopher named Al-Ghazali (spelling is important, as there were several with similar names), created a fundamentalist and xenophobic philosophy which stated that all knowledge was to be found in the Koran, and nowhere else. And while it took some time, eventually this, and subsequent anti-learning philosophies, spread to every corner of Islam.
This effectively froze Islam in time, and it remained so until the 20th Century. However, it still keeps its smug, self-satisfaction that it is the most civilized system around. And this is its weak point.
In truth, Islam now represents barbarity and primitivism. And it is glaringly obvious, even to Muslims. But believing, insisting that they are the most advanced civilization is a cornerstone to their arrogance.
So they try to argue that they are *morally* superior to us barbarians. For example, they seriously try to argue that women are elevated and being respected by forcing them to wear burkhas and not operated motor vehicles, among lots of other restrictions.
Truly this is their weakest point, and in argument, if their barbarity and primitivism is pointed out, they lose their marbles.
“Islam is the religion of peace, and if you say it isn’t, we will cut off your head and slaughter your entire family!”
Therefore, it is important to emphasize this, over and over, that Muslims are *not* civilized, that indeed, they are barbarians, and it is proven in their actions, despite their obvious and shameful hypocrisy in denying it. They cannot just say they are civilized, they have to prove it.
I hope more theaters will be showing this movie. There isn’t one in my area yet.
IMHO the founding fathers had it right in that there should be no state religion. Any religion that is given absolute power will be corrupted. You can see examples all through history of this being the case.
