State to require sun-blocking car windows

New cars sold in California must include windshields that block or absorb the sun’s rays beginning in 2012, the state Air Resources Board ruled this week.

The new regulation is meant to keep cars cooler, cutting the need for air conditioning, saving energy and reducing emissions that contribute to global warming, the agency says.

To meet the new rules, car windows will have to block 33 percent more of the sun’s heat-producing rays than cars windows do today. Because the rays being blocked are in the infrared part of the spectrum, the windows would not require tinting, and will look no different from present-day car windows, said air board spokesman Stanley Young.

“It uses a very microscopic sputtering of metal particles that act as tiny invisible mirrors,” Young said.

Most are aware the California faces a severe economic crisis. We have a budget deficit. One way to save some money is to completely get rid of the California Air Resources Board . They are a duplication of Federal EPA. We could save hundreds of millions and get rid of these little Hitlers at the Air Resources Board.

Pretty funny - some little toad makes a new rule - and everyone sucks it up. Why not just ban AC units? That would save a ton of gas.

And folks wonder why stupid FedGov mandates cause health insurance rates to climb every year.

My state just passed a law outlawing dark tinted windows.

That is one of the goals of fascism....make it impossible to follow all the laws so you are always in jeopardy of imprisonment.

Makes for short trips to RM 101.

Or, if you are really worried about people using air conditioners you could ban them from cars. This wouldn't add thousands to the sale of a new car and bring in new tax money though would it? Not to mention having a couple million screaming liberal voters coming after them.

CA, if I recall correctly, currently outlaws tinted windows because they want cops to be able to see into your car when they drive along side, in violation of the unlawful search amendment IMO, but I guess they are going to drop that now huh?
