Time for gay humility to go along with gay pride
Houston Chronicle ^ | June 25, 2009 | David Benkof

At the end of this month, the gay community will celebrate the 40th anniversary of the Stonewall riots, which began the gay liberation movement. This season, known in gay circles simply as “Pride,” will be particularly emotional because of the gay marriage avalanche. While gays and lesbians have much to be proud of (such as early health organizing around the devastating AIDS epidemic), gay history since Stonewall is unfortunately stained with selfishness and arrogance, traits that ironically were once themselves called pride — back when that wasn’t a compliment.

Having experienced the closet and coming out as a gay man in my late teens, I understand the common gay experience of overcoming shame and the constant need for self-esteem reassurance. But I have also come to realize that sometimes gay esteem has innocent victims, and I believe it’s time to balance out gay pride with some gay humility.

Good piece. The words will likely fall on deaf ears, but it’s a start.

Never could figure out the “gay” part of anal sodomy.

I guess that is why homosexuals are by clinical definition mentally ill. Likewise for their suck buddy politic panderers.

“Pride,” will be particularly emotional because of the gay marriage avalanche.

Not to nit pick but there was no "gay marriage avalanche" unless you mean an avalanche of liberal judges. Everywhere gay marriage bills came up for a popular vote (even in places like Calif) they went down to defeat. Gay marriage is almost always imposed on states by liberal state courts.

What is there to be proud about being gay?

Because two women can kiss each other, rub themselves together, stick things into each other?

Because two guys can stick their johnsons in each others’ mouths and poopers?

Be incredibly promiscuous, catch scores of awful diseases and parasites, and be on expensive medications for the rest of your shortened lives from your own irresponsible lifestyle of anonoymous sex?

Try to mimic playing house that regular people do as man and wife?

There is not a single thing to be proud about at all. They are kidding themselves.

In my opinion Gays would be more respected if they marched and held parades for causes other than their own selfish, perverted lifestyles. Like if there was a Gay March for Hunger or Poor Single Mothers or freedom for Iranians, etc....they would command more respect. However they want to parade their perversion and force their agendas down our throats. They deserve the ridicule and criticism for their selfish arrogance.

A little more humility, a little less hubris, a little less “pride”, a little more tolerance, a little less self-righteousness, a lot less smugness and arrogance would be a good thing all around. Don’t you think so?

Are you tired of “pride” yet?

Me, I’ll go for a lot more realism and pragmatism. I vote for practical. I vote for reality. I vote for me and freedom. How bout you?

It’s time for gay shame, not just humility. All the selfish behavior cited in the article is cause for shame and apology, not humility.

Lets say everything about you is what God or nature gave you.

By what reason then do you have any reason for pride in that - when what you are claiming to express pride in has derived from nothing regarding any human accomplishment - if what you are is what you are, then how is that fact a source of “pride”. How is that which represents no human accomplishment in any sense a cause for pride?

If some people hosted a “White Race” “pride” day and parade, would it help clarify the fiction of the “pride” label to such events, recognizing them as simply another version of political correctness gone mad.

Or the “pride” part. What are you proud of? There’s no accomplishment here that would lead to genuine pride. Why would you be proud of shoving Mr. Wangdoodle where he wasn’t ever meant to go? “Pride” doesn’t make a lick of sense in this context.

Of course, “gay” doesn’t make a bit of sense either.
